I have a mid size I'm very happy with. It's used for repairs, JP's and bottle stoppers. I'd like to buy another lathe dedicated for JP's and bottle stoppers (wine bottles). How good are the mini Taig lathes. Are they as good and accurate as a quality mid size for drilling/tapping. I'm tight on space. What mini lathe (manufacturer) would you recommend. Thanks, Frank

I have a little Grizzly and as soon as I got it tore it down cleaned filed and adjusted and it runs within 1-1.5 thou and pretty smooth and solid, If you want to splurg a bit check out the brushless motor models at little machine shop . Com, I have a little milling machine with a brushless motor and sure wish my lathe was the same.

Guess I assumed you were talking little metal lathes, if not my bad.

The small Taig set up will work for what you want in a small space. But I strongly suggest getting a higher dollar 1/2" tailstock chuck than the Chinese Jacobs they sell for accurate drilling. I use the German Rohm and sell them if you need one.
