Anyone know what the McDermott joint width is? Getting a shaft made for one but I don't have the cue, it's a gift for a friend.

They vary from .840 to .860 but the McDermott quick release joints are standard around .838
I have a box of McD shafts I have accumulated over the last 30 or so years, and they vary from .825 to almost .860.
Depending on who was polishing joints that day in the factory (matching the collars) would determine the final diameter. Some employees were more aggressive than others.
I tried over the years to get them to standardize the procedure and process but at the peak of our sport (Color Of Money days) they were the only domestic cuemaker that could keep up with the demand, delivering about 50 thousand cues a year.
I also learned to never question Jim McDermott or his teams decisions because it became quite apparent that he was the smartest man in the industry. He got in, he got his, and then he got out.
