One of the best hittin' cues there ever wuz'.

Only about half an inch longer.
His cues had no A-joint. Even the pointed ones.

My Hagan

Here's some pics of my Hagan cue. It's got a macassar ebony forearm with koa points, buckhorn joint, ferrules, and butt cap.
It's on the heavy side, the butt weighs 16 5/8 oz, shafts are 3 3/4 & 3 5/8 oz and are 30" long. It hits sweet but is just too heavy for me so I haven't been playing with it too much lately. I do love the way it looks though!!!

WOW!
Thnx EMF. That's kinda heavy b/c the whole butt is an ebony.
Nice shafts and moose antler ferrules too.

Thx Joey,
The shafts are what I'd call snappy, not too stiff but not not whippy either. I'm not crazy about the moose antler ferrules though, they seem to deflect the CB too much and combined with the extra mass of the butt, make it easy to over cook the CB. It is fun to play with though:D

I un-screwed the bumper to see if had a weight bolt in there - nope, just ebony. It was actually tapped for the little screw that held the bumper on, probably a #10.

I purchased it from AZ member kyelin, a couple of years ago. He had a twin to this cue but instead of ebony, it had Chechyn (sp?) rosewood.

I just picked up a Zylr SP that has longer shafts than the butt. Is this a Hagan influence? Does Kerry do this on all his cues (I've had a couple Z's before but never noticed:o ).

I've heard those Hagan's hit very sporty. I wish I would have bought the one Kye_Lin offered on here a year or two ago..

Thanks,
-Andy

No. MIght have been a special request.
Kerry makes em even lenghts. Even his 60" cues.
Oh, your shafts, I might have to make you custom melamines b/c we're taking it down to Filipino diameter.

Thanks for the info Joey. Regardless, it still plays great like every Zylr I've tried..

I hope you can work your magic on the ferrules.:D I'm still loving that shaft with Filipino taper/diameter. I tried it out for a few hours on the cue you made for Shane and was blown away by the hit.

Thanks again,
-Andy

Here is mine. Macassar ebony and tulipwood, ~19 oz. Made in the mid-late 90s. Just had it refinished, rewrapped and moose antler buttcap added. I really like the scallop inlays, don't know what it is, but they accent the cue really well. Thin butt, good balance, awesome hit.

Im interested...

IF anyone has a Hagan cue and is considering selling it, I would be interested.

IMO - Hagan is another DPK. He built an amazing cue. I wish I knew where he was now and it is a disappointment that he isnt making cues.

WHAT A WASTE!

Had a real nice one about 10 years ago, ebony into satinwood with the full buckhorn treatment. Wished I'd have never sold it...sorry no pics. Hagan was indeed a super cuemaker and he has his own unique/distinct style.

Addings to your collection

Hey guys

Here I have 2 identical Hagans to add on your collection, had the one on top first and felt in love with it since,my friends call it "The cue that doesn't miss". The second cue I got about 2 years ago, and I was thrilled by the lookalike...so I had to have it, had it rewrapped in leather, slightly heavier than the older cue, they both hit beautifully!!

Hagan Cue

Hey folks,

I had a dream last night about my Hagan & it inspired me to look into what Bill has been up to lately. He & I were good friends in college and I'm proud to say I have one of the first cues he ever crafted that he gave to me for free back in probably 87-88! I haven't spoken to him in close to 20yrs, but I can tell you all he's doing well, still in AZ. If anyone's interested, I'll post some pics.

Wow, it's good to see some of these awesome cues! I've always wanted to find a Hagan and found one once....but then the guy decided not to sell. But, I do like his work and would like to hit with one!

Yeah, put up some pics. Would love to see one of his first cues.

My Hagan

Here are some pics of my Hagan. Like I said in my original post, this was probably one of the first 10 or so cues that Bill Hagan ever made. I think you can see that from the less than intricate inlays, lack of a wrap, etc. I'm pretty sure the butt is rosewood and maple. Also, he originally made it with the matching shaft, but it warped (again, before he really knew what the heck he was doing!) He ended up turning me a second shaft which you can see doesn't match. The one thing I can attest to that I've heard from others on here is that this thing hits like a champ!

Quick little story. My friend asked me to play for him the rest of the season on our monday night BCA league. I gracefully accepted. We were not at home so I played at another local bar in Rochester, NY. So I see this opponenet with a custom cue that I have never seen before. I asked him to see it. It was nicely constructed and I truly loved the cue. I asked him where he got it from.

He continues to tell me his brother made it. He said his brother doesn't make many much anymore. I looked at the inititals on the butt. It said HC. I asked him what it stood for..........Hagan Cues he tells me. This is awesome. I just met this guys brother at league on Monday and now I find this thread. Seems as if his cues are much desired. I'll have to see, next time we play his team, if I can pry it from his hands for a shot or two....or maybe even a purchase LOL.
