The Viking 9-Ball tour has run for many years in the east. After all this time it looks like they finally have a sponsor whos willing to put up a little money so they can have $2500 added events. After all this time of the tournament director making more than the guys who finished 1st and 2nd in the tournament, you finally have a sponsor to add good money and who do you reward? The guys who have devoted much of their lives to pool, spending many hours practicing? No, you reward the amateurs with 4 straight $2500 added tourneys. You're an asset to this sport!

Dam Bwhizzle, what can I say. Over the past decade on the Viking Tour we have given away MILLIONS of dollars to OPEN and Professional events. YOU have only traveled to less than 20 of them. Maybe if we had the support for players such as yourself in these OPEN events we would find it financially reasonable to throw more money at them.

Hopefully, when you see our next release on our schedule with Open events you and players in your boat will find a way to support them like the Amateurs do.

Good luck on thos other tours.

Mj

Brian, you know I've supported you with the amateur/pro posts. But this one I just can't. It isn't Mike's fault that the amateurs are more feasible financially than the opens for added monies. I wish all the opens would draw 100+ players, and therefore justify it, but right now, thats just not the case. There are plenty of tours and TDs that deserve your ire, but MJ aint one of em JMO-Matt

B.White I can understand your frustration towards amateurs, myself being a amateur have spent many hours as a rail bird looking foreward to screwing you pro's over."Just a Joke" .On a different note other then your personal hard work what make's you as a pro come first. The way I see it Amateurs pay the bills. We show up to support you Pro's why can't you do the same,by not complaining to the hands the feed you.

Matt, you beat me to it.

The room owners don't care how good you play. They don't want "pro" players that eat hot dogs from the gas station and then drink free water all night. You are the exception to the rule in that respect......you at least buy enough beer so that all the girls are pretty.:D

Or Jager bombs and beer in our case!

I would bet Breakers took in more money on this event than any open event they have ever had. I've never seen so many people there before.

Kevin
< glad I made some money this weekend to help pay for my $200 tab!:D >

I dont understand this guy. He comes on here every week and complains about the same thing. Do you not get it? You are too good to go around robbing amateur events. The solution is simple.... there are lots of open tours all over the country, find one and play in it. Last weekend there was a predator tour stop in Queen, NY.... where you there?

Pro's are businessmen, they are pretty worthless to the room owner who can't squeeze a nickel outta most of them!
Amateurs are there to have a good time, and because they love the game. They fit these tournaments into their budgets, which includes spending money in, and supporting the poolrooms which hold these events!
Pro's are trying to keep their overhead for the weekend down!
And from a sponsers standpoint, who do you think spends more money on their products? So if they want to reward the people who support poolrooms, and buy the sponsers product then good for them!(ask Mike to compare how much product he sales at the pro events vs. the amateurs, its probably 10 to 1 at least!)

STICK:confused:

Just got off the phone with two of the top 10 American players and they both strongly agree that something must be done. One of the two is considered by many to be the best American player he said "soon there will be no tourney's for the open level player to play in". And this is what people don't understand........BY LAW........... IT IS JUST AS WRONG TO DICRIMINATE AGAINST SOMEONE FOR THEIR ABILITY AS IT IS FOR THEIR SKIN COLOR!!!!!!!!! IN OTHER WORDS WHEN 4 BLACK MEN BROUGHT A LAWSUIT AGAINST DENNY'S FOR NOT SERVING THEM, THE SAME COULD BE DONE FOR DISCRIMINATING AGAINST ABILITY..........AND FOR THE LAST TIME, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL POOL PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not beleive those signs in buisnesses that say "we have the right to refuse anyone" because it's not true my friends. You cannot refuse people just because you want to.

Brain, I have one of your business cards......it says "Pool Professional".

Hey guys, try to take it easy on Brian. Although I don't really agree with this post, I understand his frustration. This is one of the few activities where you are actively penalized for getting better. And no, there really aren't ANY decent open tourneys any more. Brian plays right in that no mans land, where it isn't really feasible to have to compete with pros, but better than most so called amateurs. I understand your frustration Brian, but I think you may be going about this in the wrong way. Some of these tourneys are going to be very good for the game in the ling run. If we have to suffer a little in the short run, so be it. And Mike is also the ONLY TD in the southeast that is working his ass off, trying to get sponsorships, etc. If you really want to go off on one, pick any of the others who take out half the prize fund in opens. They are the ones killing the opens.

the bottom line is that running a pool tour is the same as running a business. there are 10x more amateurs than pros so ofcourse they are gonna have larger fields...take the viking amateur knoxville tourney for example. the room owners put up money and the tour directors responsibility is to bring in players so that the room owner can make money on food and drink sales. its the same thing as driving a business by getting new clients. as far as who is eligible, well that is something the tourney director*should decide by a fair set of guidelines.
