23 days before the first ever WPA World Ten Ball Championship will be played, in Manila, the Philippines.

Rumour has it that the very best players from Philippines has chosen not to compete in this event, because of major disagreements with Yen Makabenta of Raya Sports, the organizer.

There has been very few, if any, press-releases and stories in the media about this coming championship. In Philippines pool is BIG and 400 000 $ in pricemoney is A LOT OF MONEY. Still, the organizer doesn't seem to want attention about the tournament... The only press-releases we have got is from WPA about players who have got spots... So, I have a bad feeling about it, and I think that one of two will happen (But I certainly not hope so).

1. The World Ten Ball Championship will be cancelled
2. The World Ten Ball Championship will not have 400 000 $ in pricemoney as announced, and if it does, the money will not be paid in full to all players immidiately after the end of the tournament.

I am willing to bet 100 $ that one of these 2 things will happen. Anyone willing to bet with me?

One bet only - so if you believe everything is ok bet with me!

Roy, it seems you have more information than what you are providing...

We will eventually know what is happening and it would be very detrimental to know that the WPC 9 and 10 Ball Championships could be cancelled.

At this point, the best bet is to wait and see what happens...

If I had more information then in my post, why would I limit the window to only 100 $ and one bet? ;)

If I was 100 % sure one of these 2 things would happen I would say the window was open for any amount, to as many as possible :thumbup:
 
So where are the gamblers? This should be easy money for you to get...

Why will it happen?
1. The tournament has been scheduled for almost a year
2. Europe has just recently sent a press-release stating they will send 46 players to Manila
3. Pricefund of 400 000 $ has been announced, and lately Ian Anderson of WPA stated that the 2 losing semifinalists will play for third place, so there will be a change of payouts where the losing semifinalists will not get the same amount
4. The tournament has a location, The Philippine International Convention Center
5. The tournament has a website, www.worldtenball.com
6. AZBilliards Mike Howerton and Jerry Forsyth will be there, covering the tournament
7. The organizer and promotor of the event, Yen Makabenta of Raya Sports, is MAN OF THE YEAR 2007, according to Billiards Digest.
8. The tournament will be broadcasted live by ESPN

Why will it not happen:

Come on - place your bet?!

Perhaps either Mike or Jerry would be betting with me, since they will cover the event?

ok- you are on-$20. I think it will go on. Probably half a flop but nevertheless I think it will happen.

Edit-I didnt see the caveat on the $$$ til just now but a bet is a bet.

I hope it will happen too, but if it doesn't, or the pricefund is lower than 400 000 $, atleast I can make 20 $ on it ;)

I edited my post- I didnt see that prize fund thing til after I bet-NP though-I can handle it. pretty sure you got me though. Hey anyone want a piece of my action??:) :)

You are the third person to tell me this in one form or another. I first heard this rumor from the Editor of a major pool mag. That the money was an issue. And one of my close friends in the PI told me something similar a couple of weeks ago. The money may be a problem he said.

I don't know. I'm going there to work at the tourney and enjoy the PI. I miss my girl too. Well, it may turn out to be a 16 day vacation. Not all bad. :)

I have heard lots of rumours about the tournament, but it certainly looks like everything is ok, if not we should have heard of it by now, right?

There is an ongoing National Championship (Only Filipino's) and I think the Top 4 will get slots for WTBC. Finals will be on Sunday, Sept 7.

For some reason I wouldn't be suprised if the W10BC is cancelled, especially with the fact that there's no W9BC this year.

I guess that maybe the global economy is having an effect, but at the same time, the whole scenario in between the BSCP and the BMPAP, isn't helping matters either.

That'd be like going to see the Beatles and only Pete Best showed up.

I'm with you Roy. If you get oversubscribed I'll have a piece of your action.

The $400,000 is only a part of it. With 'Mickey Mouse' TV production and poor penetration, not to mention the lack of home talent the thing is a Flying Pig which would cost closer to a million.
Why is this money not already in the WPA bank. Ian Anderson is putting his good reputation on the line with this one. The players have already put their money up for airfares.

Trying to take on Matchroom was a critical error and now they have to pay ESPN to take limited coverage.

Ten Ball - a joke supported by players who forget that it is television that drives their game and it has taken previous promoters a long time to educate the viewing public. So if nine ball is too easy then play 14.1 or even better try snooker if you want something more difficult.

Besides that, the W9BC is not dead in the water yet.
 
As of now I have only 1 bet for 20 $, and even he think he will lose the bet...

pro9dg (doug, right?), I sure hope you are right about W9BC not being dead yet...

Well I think it will happen but the 9 Ball WPC looks like it doesnt have much of a chance and if they both dont occur, how sad would that be?

Pool was in such a fragile state as it was.

This whole 9 Ball vs 10 Ball deal is hurting Pro pool badly IMHO. I dont have an answer to it.
