Today was bittersweet, we sold our poolroom which my husband has owned since 1974. I feel sad because that is all I know, but I'm happy it is going to the right people. The are young and hip, they love pool the way us old schoolers do but they are savy enough to know they have to change with the times. They plan to up date the place but, keep it a players room, get in action like the old days and offer other things for people to do as well.
So I am officially retired until boredom sets in or money runs out. I plan to be playing more pool with better focus, I just don't have to be nice and wait on folks any more.
Long live the Golden Cue, Melbourne Florida---still in business since 1958.

Enjoy it while you can. I have been out of full time work for almost 2 years and am loving it. I get to spend a lot of time with my wonderful wife and pretty much do what I want to. It's kind of odd, I think I am saving a tremendous amount of money not working. No outside lunches, no gas, less clothes to wash, I can't believe it.
Peace, Purdman

Times are changing, you either change with it or get left behind. While the classic game and games rooms you old shooters :p love is a great game and place to be, very few of us younger shooters appreciate it. Glad the room will be undergoing some adaptive changes and glad it had a good run with you owning it.

Congrats on the sale of your room. I'm sure it IS a bitter sweet day for you after owning it for over 30 years. Hell, I only had mine 8 years and felt that way. Get up and do something every day while you have your health. Good Luck to you PoolMaven. Johnnyt

Tracy,

Bittersweet is the best word you could have used! Good to see you get a break and some peace and quiet, but it is always a shame to see great roomowners turn in there keys! There are not to many rooms out there that still cater to players. Good to hear that you have faith in the new owners, I hope they get another 50 years out of it! Good luck in the future, I expect to see your name high on the leaderboard in some tournaments(I know you will tear them up with the newly found spare time)!

No outside lunches? No Tips in the JAR at TACO Bell? ;)

Causes me to smile

I have, as probably like most here, have a dream of owning a pool room. I have often ran the numbers on places and locations, but I could never see a better return than leaving my money where it is at currently.

I probably will never own one for that reason, sometimes you have to follow your heart more than your head.

I wish the best my friend.

Your friend in pool,

Ken

Good Luck

You will miss the customers more than you ever will miss the business.

I have been seriously thinking of getting out off the business to.

Hey Tracy,

Congratulations! You now are officially retired and can focus on your game. It must feel like your baby all growed up and got married and has a new partner (except you made money on the wedding! :p ) Enjoy your new time for yourself. Hope to see you at another tourney!

you will enjoy the freedom, when my parents sold their biz to my friend it was a load off of them, (i gave my friend the $$ to pay my parents-they didnt know) they took a little while to adjust to the changes but it was great to watch them relax. they just had a small feed store that did $250,000/yr that made them $30,000/yr, which explained why i didnt follow in the family foot steps, I gave the store to Darryl and their house too. I hooked up my buddy good, he did put some $$ into it, but I covered it when I made it.

i closed down my biz b/c of the economy and i dont miss it at all, not one bit, i miss the income, but i like not having the headaches, I have a new gig comming up that will be alot less stressful.

Hey friends thanks for the kind words, especially you Jeremy!
I'm going to help out the new owner a little bit this morning and then...guess what? I have a match lined up.
Stay cool, play pool!

Well now you have more time to post on AZ. When I had my last pool room, I barely knew this place existed. Since it closed you can't get me off here. Only Wilson can do that.

Scott,
After having the worst summer ever in my room it wouldn`t be hard to do.
I told my landlord im here until he throws me out.
It gets very discouraging when you cant pay your rent in full.

I will probably be here till I pass out behind the counter. lol

Stop in if your ever close.
