Tim_Hong is a Scammer. I need help!!!

I just sold a Jacoby D-1 to Tim_Hong on September 3rd and he had me send the cue to Hong Kong. I received payment from two different paypal accounts that are different names from Tim. Just today I received a Charge back from Paypal for the payment of $245 stating that the buyer is claiming they did not make this purchase. Can anyone help me so I don't get screwed. I hate dishonest people. Anyone with suggestions on what to do would help greatly, I sent the cue USPS International Express Mail

Have you contacted Tim_Hong about the matter?
I would start there, I hate to jump to conclusions....
Hopefully he will fix the situation.

Note; Only acccept paypal from a name / person you "know" is the owner of the account.

When you received payment from a name other than his did you confront him with this?
I wish you luck.

Hate to tell you this, but you are already screwed. Do not ship an item to anyone at an unverified address. You have no way of proving the person who paid you received the goods. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I figured you'd appreciate knowing the truth.

i hate to say it but i think your out the cue! would unfortunately cost more to try and pursue this internationally than its usuallly worth!!! i always wait at least 10 days before i ship a cue overseas no matter what!!!!! and i have on three seperate occasions chargebacks for unaithorized use of a paypal account! fortunately i waited and i was safe!!

ONE OF THE GIVEAWAYS OF THESE SCAMS IS THEY ALWAYS INSIST ON SHIPPING THE CUE THE MINUTE YOU RECIEVE THE MONEY VIA PAYPAL!!!!!!

THATS BECASUE THEY KNOW IT USUALLY TAKES A COUPLE DAYS TO BE REVERSED AND THEY HAVE THE CUE AND KNOW ITS TOO HARD TO PURSUE THEM OVERSEAS!!!!!!!!

ALWAYS ERROR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION !!!!!!!!!! IF IT DOESNT FEEL QUITE RIGHT THEN WAIT, IM SURE MOST BUYERS WONT MIND!!!!!!

Well, Patrick, I think this may be an issue for me, also. I sold a Meucci cue to Tim_Hong at about the same time, and he requested to do it the same way. Now, I will probably see a reversal in my Paypal, also. It would appear to be a new scam, but maybe it will just be a mistake.

Everyone needs to be aware of this for future reference.

Here's why you are hosed:

(1) The user used different PayPal accounts that were not linked to him
(2) You sent the cue to Tim, not the address of the PayPal users that paid you
(3) The people that paid you the money have a claim, because they paid for something they KNOW they will never receive, and even if you sent the cue Fedex overnight priority, the address will not match the address on their PayPal account

Sounds like he's done this before. Word of advice - when you ship a cue to someone that pays you via PayPal, ship to the address provided by PayPal as the shipping address during the transaction. It's the only way you can protect yourself from this type of fraud.

The scam has nothing to do with how fast they want the cue, or how fast it is shipped. The heart of the scam is shipping the merchandise to an unconfirmed address. If I pay for something with a PayPal account, and I ask the buyer to ship the item to Alaska instead of my home address, how do you prove that I got the item? You can't, unfortunately. If, however, you shipped it to my home address that is registered to my PayPal account, you have some recourse. They have up to 30 days to file a chargeback against you, so the time issue has no play here.

If this is a scam...I believe the statement of "time" was to be interpreted as the scammer wants the item in the mail before you can see the chargeback on your account.
Therefore...to late, it's already on it's way to BFE.

But.....time will not work for you on this one. They have you by the short and curlys either way. The chargeback can be processed within 30 days. Trust me on this one. I am one of the reasons David Huff is sitting in jail right now. If you don't ship the cue in 30 days, the chargeback is deserved, because the shipper is the scam artist. Now, let's say you are the honest seller, and you ship the cue a week after transaction. The buyer has 21 days to file the chargeback. He can track the cue and see where it's at. He can start the chargeback the minute he knows the cue has left the country. He can't stop the shipment if it's with the postal service, and has left the host country.

ok, this is assuming the scammer is using an account they have access to or an account of someone they know in order to conduct the scam.
If the scammer is hacking my account I will know almost immediately. Therefore I would initiate the chargeback immediately.
I see where your coming from, but I was looking at this from a hacking standpoint.

Now you've got it. The scammer has help from people on this one. The scam only works if you do not cover your ass. There is a way to protect against this. You have to email the people that paid you, and get them to sign off that they acknowledge the use of their PayPal account by their "friend", and they know the item isn't being shipped to them. You then forward those emails to PayPal before you accept payment or ship the item to the end buyer. It's a pain in the ass, but it avoids these types of situations. OR, only ship to people with PayPal accounts of their own AND ship to the address provided by PayPal. OR, take Money Orders from international buyers.

Yeah, they all know each other in Hong Kong. This should definitely get this worked out for you. 7 million people in Hong Kong - he's bound to know someone who knows the scammer.

Nice suggestion, but let's face the music. The cue is gone. I sincerely hope I am proven wrong, but I would bet money against Eddie Wheat gift certificates (just kidding, but you get the point) that this deal is done.

He tried it with me, too. Said the cue was supposed to be for some kind of charity event...and that he and 2 or 3 of his friends were going to pay me for the cue (payment amounts to be split up amongst them all). Sounded WAY wrong to me...so I didn't even consider it.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened...and hope that it's just some kind of awful misunderstanding.

My best to ya. Hope it works out, and sincerely hope you either get your cue back or all the money you sold it for.

Mark

He tried to purchase the AC cue I had for Raffle this way also. After he informed me that he wanted to use 4 different Paypal accounts I backed out. But he did buy 12 spots on my raffle with a Chan Sandy Paypal acct. I never thought much about it as most PayPal acct. names are different than screen names. Hopefully I'll be OK...But who am I kidding !!!

I'm glad I backed out. Hopefully, I'll be OK...

Hi Shawn,

I am sure u have got ur math right but do u know how many of those people would be playing, buying or selling pool cues?

Kam might or might not know this guy but there is a very high percentage of chance that he might know him.Pool playing community is quite small there. So I am sure its worth taking a chance by contacting kam and would not cost anything.
I am sure instead inflating the problem its better to find solutions for it.

Good luck Mate...

Well, I have decided if by chance he wins the AC cue raffle, I WILL indeed hold the cue for 35 days to just see if a charge-back is made.

I am sorry this is happening to you but thanks for the heads up becuase Tim Hong is currently trying to but one of my Schons.....Not Gonna Happen Now.... Good luck and I hope it all works out...

Mike

I have heard this storey 25 times at least. The solution is simple, STOP USING PAYPAL to receive funds (they will steal from you).
