Full Circle

JB Cases

Well I guess now I can say that I have come full circle. I started by tearing apart my J.E.F Q Case (Jay Flowers) in 1991. Now 18 years later I have built a replica of it (well a case in that style at least)

These are two models of a new revival line we (as in Sterling) are bringing out.

Tonight I went to the pool room with the brown one and I felt like I was 20 again. I guess I get a little jaded after all these years and have forgotten what that feeling is when you get something you really wanted for a long time. This case reminds me of how simple things were back then.

Pricing and such can be found in this thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=114166 for those who might ask.

Looking good John... imo. Initially available in 2x4 only or is 3x6 going to be a choice now?

We will offer it in all sizes as well as custom from the factory if someone wants to go that route. Still working out the details on that but essentially it will be that there will be a few designs that are standard and you can add a few options. Trying to keep it relatively simple so that I can be sure that each case is produced to my standards without fail.

Really good looking cases John, I think you are going to be very busy.

Thanks! I have something really special to share with you all but I want to let the guy who got the case to get it and share it before I do.

I wonder

I know of one person :p anxiously waiting for an awesome piece of work, just from the pictures
wonder when it will get here, I mean there ..... :D

Hi John,

I'll take a brown 3x6 if you're making one. PM me the price (I hope I can afford it. :) ) and where to send payment.

Thanx,

well John as Jack and now you are finding out, if you can't beat em', join em'

Well John I am not sure if you have come “full circle”, but you sure are building some unique cases, and it amazes me you never seem to run out of idea, for another case that is a mind blower. Keep up the good work.

Sort of.

But not really.

I was gonna tell this story later but this seems like a good place.

I met Jay Flowers in the late 90s at one of the Vegas Tournaments. He was playing on a league team in front of my Instroke booth. While he was waiting to play he drifted over and started looking at the cases. Not knowing who he was I started to give him the pitch. He introduced himself and told me about how he started the tube case style.

We chatted for a little while and he told me that it would be alright with him if Instroke did a case like his. He said that the Instroke case was better than what he had made. I said that I would think about, it would consider it an honor, and would stay in touch to discuss it.

I never did talk to him again.

Circumstances being what they were I had my hands full juggling all sorts of issues surrounding Instroke. However the thought of doing the Jay Flowers cases has never left my mind.

So now, ten years later, I am finally in a position to do justice to the man who influenced me and lots of other case makers. Is is "copying"? Yes it is. I am clearly using Jay's templates gleaned from all the pix I could scrounge up on the net.

One thing about Jay is that his body of work is diverse. He didn't confine himself to one template. I am like that. With Instroke I felt trapped by the "cowboy" pattern.

I feel like I can do great credit to Jay legacy and finally do that project he and I talked about.

And as I told you it's not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when". Hopefully our case project won't take ten years but if it does I think it will be worth it.
