co-op cue

Here's a unique cue. It's a co-op build between Wes Hunter & myself. Some is his, some is mine, some is totally new & different. It's a basic design with a lot of "behind the scenes" things going on. We took our strong points & mixed into one cue. It's ebony forearm/butt with mottle figured bubinga handle. The collars are brown phenolic with melamine & phenolic rings. The melamine rings are engraved with a tricky little squiggle to give some fashion. I made some matching J/P's, too.

The cue was built as a co-op to fund added prize money for a local tournament. Basically, we wanted to give players an incentive to become more involved in the game, and offer a good prize to those who play the best. The proceeds of the cue are being added to the tounament prize fund.

VERY cool Huntertree!

 Cool name!!! I was thinking something similar. I don't know if anything like this has ever been done, but I reccomend it to other builders. It was fun & a neat learning experience. It's one thing to talk cues & ideas, but it's a totally different animal to actually co-op build using one another's strongest attributes in one cue.

Very nice cue!

Congratulations on a real beauty! That is a nice cue.
The character in the ring work accents both woods.

Well done to you both.

I think collaberation cues are a good idea, and you two made a nice one.

I tip my hat to you both,
Barry

Thanks a lot, Barry. Your dad's "lazy S" inlays were part of the inspiration of these rings.

LOL, nice...it means something for Barry to take the time to post a comment here, only three posts ever!

Also, that is a very figured curly piece of Bubinga...always seen a lot of straight grain before and the brown phenolic matches it perfectly!!!

I read your post about the inspiration for the rings on this cue, funny I thought of that the second I saw it, Its just awesome to see Gus's influences on other cues that arnt copies, thats a great tribute to one of the grand master cue makers of all times, if not the grand master!!! This cue is just something special and then some!!!

I agree 100%

There's something to be said about a guy who has lessons to teach even long after he is gone. That's worthy of legend in my mind. I'd loved to have known him. Everybody I know who met him have nothing but the kindest words to describe him.

Goddamit...I'm at work and can't see the friggin' pictures. I can't wait to get home. Sounds like a wonderful collaboration.

As a side note...welcome to the forums Mr. Szamboti.

so what are your best attributes and what are his? lol not to be rude, but what parts of this cue would you consider yours and what are his?
