my son (5 1/2) and I have developed a game that is fun for both players... and challenging enough to keep my interest...

the child does not use a cue.. he picks up the cueball ONLY he is not allowed to touch any other ball

I break

and he then rolls the cueball into any ball on the table .. as long as something falls and he doesn't scratch.. he gets to go again..

when he misses or fouls...
Dads turn..

fouls have to go sit in the chair until its your turn again... even for Dad, a 5 year old getting cocky because you scratched is a pretty humbling experience LOL

I can shoot any ball to any pocket 14.1 style....I can only run 5 however.
after 5 balls I must bank or kick to continue the run..

edit:.every shot is a bank or kick after 5 balls

I work on my less used skills ... he gets chances back to the table...

I use all the pool lingo I know.. and laugh and have fun with it

It is fun...

your 5 year old pointing and laughing at you cocking off saying over and over "you choked on the money ball" is pretty hilarious..

play pool with your kids.....

whoever sinks the very last ball wins the game

Sounds like a great game for the younger kiddies. I'll have to give this a try the next time the nephews are over.

When I was a kid, my earliest recollection of pool was rolling balls around by hand on my uncle's pool table. Whenever my nephews come over, they always want to "play pool", but they're still a bit young/small to handle even a kiddie cue. This game sounds like a great introduction to the game and the equipment. Thanks for the details!

it is a lot of fun and I am amazed at how much info he is picking up.. he called and made a cross side bank the other day.

My 8 year old and I play a lot. I try to handicap it so that he has as much chance to win as I do. We usually play 9 ball. We have recently started playing 14.1 and he loves it. I?m not very familiar with the game so I am learning also. I?m trying to figure a way to handicap this. I might try something similar to what you are doing soft shot. He had a run of 8 yesterday and he?s really starting to improve a lot right now. He has a lot of interest in the game and a great attitude. It?s exciting for me to see him improving.

Jack told me today that he "needed to do his drills"..

and proceed to align a stripe properly to perform mother drill 1...

and even used my two warm up strokes... ... missed by a mile on the first try....he tried 4 or 5 times and once got a nice tire roll....

he's chomping at the bit to play pool...

how much of that is I love to play pool ???

and how much is I love to hang out with dad???

and most important.... does it matter????

Thanks for the post softshot. I was looking for a way to get my son to "play pool" with me and this looks like the perfect way to get him introduced to the game since he wont use a cue yet.

Great idea rep on the way !!

Edit : tried to give rep but a have to spread it around abit

Put it all over the net on pool related sites and kids sites. Good game for young kids to learn with. Johnnyt
