I recently purchased a K2 desktop CNC. I finally got it and set it up. I will run through a list of what it will do. It has 30? of X axis on cue, sherline 4 th axis and tail stock, Cue is leveled out under cutting head Hitachi router with a DA 300 collet system. I replaced the bearings in the router to high performance stk bearings vary quite and smooth. Vacuum table I custom made. 5 cfm pump. This system is worth every penny as far as set up time goes. Mach 3,dell computer ,type 3 software, all for about $4300 enjoy the pics, thanks Darrin Hill .I included one more picture for fun!!! Enjoy

The machine looks really nice and so does the snowmobiles. Now you have to decide whch toy you really want to play with. :)

Cool

Nice Machine Darren.
Yea Joey???
How much is the y axis travel?
What made you decide on the Hitachi, was it the ability to up-grade the bearings?
Thanks for sharing Darren..
What's type 3 software?

Very nice setup.
Did you save a lot compared to a full sized Gantry from K2? Was just wondering since I received a quote (EDIT On a Gantry setup) from them which I did not go for earlier.

have to agree with Chris, there is a time for those snowmobiles and we use them a lot these day's. Nothing like riding the "woods" in powder

Very nice! Did you buy this new? If so where from?

THanks

chris, i could spend all my time raceing moto-cross or snowmobiling, but i have to make a living. work hard play hard thats me. alton the y axis is about 5.5'' i'm only going to use about 3.5'' of it .i did alot of research and found the hitachi to rate vary high,i heard the bearings were no good . after finnaly getting it apart i put the arber between centers, and the aluminun fan that is glued to the arber ran way out, i trued it up by taking a light cut on faces on the fan. i plan on just doing inlays on this machine, but it will do all. this is new from k2 for under 3.000 i bought a lot of extras. thanks darrin

Darrin,
what is the x travel on the machine 30 ? 31 ? if you get a chance could you run an indicator over the table start all the way to the left, then go all the way to the right and let me know what how much variation there is
in the flatness of the table.
Thanks
Mark

I'm in the process of completely re-building the table from scratch. The old set up ran out about 0.005, its not going to work for my liking. This CNC was built as a small table top bench mill. I had them extend the table for me. And it is not up to my liking. I will keep you posted on the new CNC table I am building.
