Has anyone seen this post on Ebay, forgive me if this is old news.

Hi everyone this is Brian Burke with eBay's Policy team. Effective January 1, 2009 we will no longer permit the sale of ivory on the site with two exceptions:

Pianos with ivory keys will be permitted
Wood furniture with ivory inlays will be permitted as long as the item was created before 1900.

In October, eBay Ink (www.ebayinkblog.com) covered the background and rationale around this decision, which I encourage you to read. For more details, please see the Animals & Wildlife policy.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke

Unfortunately, yes. I suppose you can still list a cue without describing what the build materials are, although that is a tough way to go.

There are ways to get around it. Just be sure to tell everyone to email you with any questions regarding inlay materials. Just make it some sort of code. If the cue has ivory, say to email for inlay questions.

Yea, they will have the ivory police watch the listings. When they catch you they will remove the listing and give you an alert to the violation. 3 violations and your out or suspended depending on how much money they have been making off you.

I was eventually planning to sell my ivory billiard ball collection . . . :(

Will

Ebay policy change?

People will just start using other means to describe it. In the end it will be ineffective.
Just describe your cue and say something like "The white material in this cue is what it looks like and it isn't a cheap plastic material". I think you'll be fine as long as you don't say the cue contains ivory. If you're selling a custom cue and you start the bid off in the range where the price should be the people looking for a cheap cue will move on and the buyers who know cues will recognize what the cue is and what the material is.

I think it's just a bump in the road that can be avoided. I wouldn't try to sell an ivory inlaid cue to someone out of the US though because of the recent crackdown by the Fish and Wildlife inspectors who are on the look out for ivory whether it's legal or not!

I saw a post just the other day on there where the seller noted that the matrial was something white that elephants have. So I would say there is always a loophole somewhere.
