I haven't practiced straight pool in a few years, but last time I did I ran 50 something balls. Yesterday I was at the pool hall practicing and decided to play some straight pool with a buddy. We raced to 100. I opened with a 22 and ended up winning the set from there. After he took off, I proceeded to run 62 balls for my new high run! I know it's not great, but I was happy as hell. I'm sure it will only get better as I plan to start playing it a lot now.
I think the main thing that helped me was John Schmidt's advice on finding the "triangle" to get to your break ball. Once I started trying that it felt easy running balls.
