Anyone going to the VNEA tournament in Vegas at the end of May? If so, have you seen the latest about charging green fees instead of tokens or dollars. Here is what they are charging this year:
Mens Entry 8 and 9 ball open = $100 plus $35.00 green fees per event.
Masters and Intermediate are even more.
Team Entry regular open= $250.00 plus $ 200.00 green fees.
Womens Team open = $200 plus $140.00 green fees.
Doesn't this sound like a rip off to you? I think they will be losing a lot of the intermediate and lesser players and teams because of this.
What do you think?

break2win...That does seem very excessive. The singles races are short (race to 3,4, or 5), so the most it could cost someone who goes 2 and out would be $10-$15. $200 greens fees for a team is outrageous, imo. Again, even if it was a 25-game format, and your team went 2 and out, the team would still only pay $25 (splitting quarters or games). This is hard to imagine, as the person who puts in the tables (the guy in Ft. Collins CO...is it still Gary Benson?) makes huge money from the table drop. I don't know the details, but it sounds like somebody is getting greedy.

I must agree with Scott. That sounds quite excessive and really could add to the cost of the tournament. I know that each game is a buck but split evenly. You would need to go rather deep in the tournament to get your moneys worth. Does that include free practice as well?? If not, all I can say is OUCH!!

Well one thing I didn't mention is that the tables are open for all events, including scotch doubles, all the mini's, the Sportsman division and also open tables for practice. But all the people I go with every year, don't go just to play pool. In fact sometimes pool gets in the way of other things
like beer and gambling and other Las Vegas stuff. I play the 8 ball, 9-ball and team event and this amount seems out of line for what I do. I suppose for the die hard pool fanatics this may seem like a pretty good deal.

Scott, I think Gary Benson is still the guy who brings in the tables.

I still like it better than having $20.00 in quarters jangling in my pocket.

Exactly. I would pay the green fee and just be done with it.. practice all I wanted/needed.. and not worry about having all that change on me.

Green Fees:

Good for the player that wins.
Poor for the player that goes two & out!

They both pay the same amount....SPF=randyg

Well, if they are open for practice it's a great deal. Also, if you do a lil side acion, this way you could play some races to say 5 or so for $20 and not lose money on the tables. I don't think you will find many empty tables if they are open all the time. The last time I was in Vegas I probably went through maybe $40-$50 in table coins. If the tables were free I would have played way more pool too.

Hi Tuscon9, The way I figured it was, I play 8-ball, 9-ball and Team event. With just those 3 events, it will cost me $110.00 just for green fees plus $250.00 in entry fees. At $1.00 per game like it was, that is 110 games of pool. I don't play that many games over a 3 month period. The matches are a race to 5 so the most per match would average $2.50 per player.I think a $10.00 or $15.00 green fee sounds a lot more fair.

After reading about the sportsman/woman singles/team tournaments on page 5, makes the green fees a bit more bearable as there isn't green fees OR entry fees to those and only a "nominal" fee for the 'Hardluck' divisions which most will be placed in that wouldn't have otherwise got thier $'s worth in table time. If you go 2 and out in both, then I would think you still might almost break even for the green fees.

just a thought...
