Do cork wraps come in any other color then natural and speckled? I am wanting a black one.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you want a cork wrap, Brady? They feel good, but the cork chips out whenever the handle gets hit on anything, eventually leaving the wrap full of holes.

Hi Roger,

I have a cue right now with a cork wrap and love it. I don't beat my stuff up so I feel confident I can keep the wrap in good shape.

i have never heard of a cork wrap. can you decribe the difference between cork and a leather wrap feel wise?

Okay. I've never installed a cork wrap, or else I'd do one for you. It's probably a lot like installing a leather wrap, and I would think it would be a simple matter of using black stain to get the color, but then again, that's all guesswork on my part.

Good luck.

PLUG for Bryan Mordt who has done several cork wraps, and they look good. Like the one Bert Schragger use to do.

The cork wrap feels a little more like cork and the leather feels a little more like leather.

Hope this helps :D:D:D:D

That is what I was wondering. Do they come in black or is it possible to stain them and how does that work or has anyone done it? 4 simple questions really :) LOL

Brady,

There's a place on Deer Valley Road called Quality Industrial Products that sells "Neo-cork", which is cork granules blended with either a neoprene or Buna-N rubber binder (much tougher than the standard cork that Roger was talking about). They actually have several different types and colors of this material. Unfortunately, there is a pretty large minimum order from Dodge-Regupol, so they'll have what they have in stock. If you talk to Gail (602) 861-2930 or Tracy, tell them that Steve Feld sent you. If they don't have much stock, ask them for the number for the G.B. Tewes company in CA and they should have about any type you would need.

Good luck!

Steve

I could be wrong on this, but I think there only two ways to change the color of materials like wood, leather and cork, and those ways are: paint or stain. Of course, paint is out, so that leaves stain. I doubt that you can buy cork wrap material already stained, but I do have black stain that I use on cues, so unless you get a better offer, I'd be willing to stain your existing wrap for you.

The black one would be going on one of my other cues so I would need to buy the wrap and then give it to you to stain. Could be a cool little experiment.

Now I'm going to have to say that you'd better do whatever Cowboy advises you to do. He recently told me that he knows a lot more about pool than I do. :o

Whats up BVizzle? I have a cork wrap on one of my cues, and I love it. Never had any problems with it coming apart.

Yes it comes in black.

Jack Madden did a really nice black cork wrap for Tommy DiLorenzo.

I bought a cork wrap online and had Pranke install it.

What up bro? I still have that book for you if you want to borrow it. I have a natural one on one of my cues but I want to put one on my other cue and the only color that would look good on it is Black. Where did you purchase your black cork wrap or did you buy and and Pranke stained it and installed it?

Tim Padgett I just sold with a cork wrap.

Is this what you are looking for but maybe darker??

I can forward Tim's # to you is you want to talk with him about it.

I like the feel of cork better than any other wrap, myself. McDermott used to install black cork wraps back in the 80's and they felt very good. They are installed just like leather but the cork is much, much thicker and once installed it must be cut down. Fine sandpaper has little effect on cork so You need to use a coarse sandpaper (60 or 80 grit) to get it down close to final fit. The ends are the hard part. You can't touch the finish without destroying it with the coarse sand paper and the slightest difference in height 0n the edge can be felt. Most of the cork wraps that are purchased are a combination of cork and that Buna material as it is made for gasket material. I see no reason why it can't be stained black but I believe other colors may be more difficult as that rubber material is black and I don't believe it would take a stain.

Nice timing BVal! I was literally just about to ask this same question myself!
