A dear friend of mine Eva Finchum of Indianapolis, Indiana was told by her doctors that she needs to undergo a liver transplant and I wanted to help every way I could to help raising money her medical bill. So I did what I do best…

ASK FOR FREE SHIT!

I called a cue maker that I recently had some run in with (totally another story someday) and briefly apologize what I was about to do… “Ummm, Hi, Andy it’s me, Sunny… You don’t know me well, but you did me a favor at Derby City Classic and you felt so bad for me at that time… you even dumped few games to me so we can break even…”

When I got Andy – Gilbert that is, the custom cue maker to finally places me from the back of his most unpleasant memories, I sprung it on him that I am looking for a hand out. I asked if he had a spare cue that he can DONATE in cause of Eva – that there will be a benefit tournament for her in a month and I was gathering swags to be raffled off with 100% donation to her medical bills….

After begging for 1000 miles an hour, I took a deep breath in to embrace the harsh rejection or even a hang up tone I may get…

“Man, Sunny! That’s horrible! I love to help and will send you a plain Jane. Boy, if I only had a little more time I could send you something nicer…where should I send it to?

Oh, my God! He was truly sorry he couldn’t send a nicer cue…

Couple of days ago, I got the cue delivered. It’s made of brown “King Wood” with couple brass rings. It was truly a beauty – maybe it was because it showed Andy’s heart-it was most beautiful simple cue I had ever seen. I've attached a picture to show it off:smile:

Thank you, Andy Gilbert. You can’t put a price on a good deed that gives someone life and hope.

S.

If they had the same blood type, he would have offered a lobe of his liver too. He's just a great guy. Yet another Andy Gilbert story in the books.

Andy is top notch. I haven't met his wife yet but I have spoken to her numerous times and she seems like a sweetie.

Andy and I got to hang out for a while at Derby this year and I can tell you that he is one of my favorite people in pool. I am a little biased because I have 3k worth of Gilbert lumber in my case but even if I didn't, my opinion of him would be the same.

It doesn't surprise me at all that Andy volunteered a cue to help someone, it isn't the first time this has happened.

The best.

If you make just a few friends like Andy over your lifetime you can consider yourself blessed. He's a GREAT cuemaker, but an even better man.

WOW!
After what Sunnyday shared with us, your post and the post of others talking about Andy Gilbert, my mission will be to meet Andy at one of the next tournaments.

I like the way people talk about Andy Gilbert.

Next time we are at the same event I will make a point to introduce you guys if you haven't met by then. I am sure Andy will be at Derby next year.

Thats just really cool to do.

Depending on the audience at the benefit tourney, I'd say you could raise between $700-$900 here no problem with that cue so a raffle or for sale here may be the way to go unless you know people will dig deeper in their pockets at the benefit event which often happens. I know, I bought a signed UFC T-Shirt when a buddy of mine's mother passed away for $300 and then put the shirt back in for auction again!

Sell spots here for a raffle. Let us know a paypal or give an address.

It will be raffled off this Saturday at Brickyard Billiards Indianapolis, IN during Eva's benefit tournament. I am an honest person some people already bought some tickets even they don't live in Indiana. I want Eva to personally draw the winning ticket and if they aren't at the tournament, I will ship it to them. Thanks for the idea- I didn't exactly stop asking after Andy. Her copay to surgery is over $28,000.00 and I can't even imagine the cost of her post op care.

I have more cool stuff that I may put on online raffle here. I will post items and info later.

Big thumbs up for Andy.

Play with one of his cue's and I love it! And now I love it even more!

That definitely is awesome news. Eva is very fortunate to have such caring friends and family in her life. If you do happen to list details of the raffle, keep us posted.

When I think about having a cue made there's so many cuesmiths (I like that term) out there that I don't know where to start. Andy Gilbert just made my short list. Right alongside Steve Klapp, Eric Crisp, and Jack Madden.
