I recieved my case from Chaz on Sunday. Overall I am very pleased with how it turned out. For this being the third case he has completed I feel he is well on his way to becoming a competative case maker.
I asked for a tooled all black case in 3x6 configuration, initially with tubes, however he was able to aquire some pre-made lightweight soft interiors through JB, and that is what I received. The case is extremely light, under 4#, yet well constructed and seems to offer adequate protection with the PVC sleeved interior.
Chaz did a very good job on the tooling, in the patterns I requested. The dye was spray applied and has nice even distribution and finish.
There are two things I would suggest Chaz could work on moving forward.
The lid is held on with a single snap on both sides, you can not lift a full case by the top handle, the snaps will not hold. I suggest a permanent attachment on one side and a double snap on the opening side.
The second thing is the side handle, I asked him to make the strap adjustable so it could be attached at the side handle much like JB's Flowers cases and Justis cases. This created what seems to be a very thin soft leather handle, something stiffer here I think would be a help.
The shoulder pad is not painted it is an actual cut out with a suede background, a very nice touch. The same suede is at the opening at the top of the case.
The pockets are a big improvement from where he started, I am satisfied with how they turned out, and in the lengths I requested.
Overall I am very pleased with the case, and as soon as Chaz is ready for new orders I am ready with new ideas.
Everyone be patient (yes, I can say that now, I have my case
), I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
