Bert Kinnister DVD's

Hi All,

Just wanted to get some feedback from the forum...

Some years ago I bought a whole load of Bert Kinnisters tutorial DVD's, and have had problems with them. All of them.

They will all stick and pause at various and different points when I play them. I've tried different dvd players, pc's, apple macs and have the same result.

I called Bert about this and he said that this is the first he has heard of this issue and even volunteered to send me over a cheap DVD player (which although I didn't take him up on it, I think is an amazing offer to help a customer out).

I don't want to slate Berts products in any way; but I'm just curious if I'm the only one to have these problems.

Thanks All.

I've also had the same problems that you've mentioned. One of the DVDs would only play right through on my Toshiba installed media player.

I've watched some of his tapes and the ones I saw were from a few years ago. I haven't had a chance to see any of his DVD's and I wonder if it's the same videos on DVD that I saw on tape. One thing that puzzled me on his tapes was the small table he used to show his shot examples on. I wondered why he didn't use a 9' table.

Does he use a 9' table on the DVD's? I'm just curious.

Something like that is usually due to the media or how fast it was burnt.

If someone uses high quality media and burns real slow (2x or 4x) and use's DVD +R, those will usually get the best results.

No - its the same content that was on the VHS thats now been ripped onto DVD's. Some of the disks have TAPE 1 at the start of the program.

Yeah I noticed that about the barbox in the exercises too... It threw me for a while. I just assumed that they were 9' and that something else was very very wrong LOL.

As I understand it, the guys over at Seyberts do the burning from a master.
The disks I got were not very high quality. Considering the amount I paid for the 50 or so disks, I would have liked a better standard. But, it has taken me a few years now to post about that and see if anyone else had the same problems.

Some of his later tapes / dvds were shot on 9 ft tables - I have one of his dvd's instructional by Don "Preacher" Feeney and it is all messed up (stops picture get fragmented) I never bothered to call him on it - I reordered it from another site and the samething happened and they gave me a replacement (not same one but somethinglese) if he is trying to sell you a player thast sounds like BUll to me - sometimes when vhf tapes are converted to dvd there can be problems ( Feeney was always on vhs tapes - so they were converted)

This problem is usually the result of burning the discs (on a computer) rather than having them pressed from a glass master at a factory. Error rate is about 4% in burnt disks, while its 0.2% or something for pressed discs. People only tend to burn discs if they sell a very small number, while pressed discs are ideal for large volumes.

Thanks Nathan.

Does anyone from Seyberts post on AZ or anyone know about how they burn the disks ?

yup... duplication vs. replication. Replication is so cheap I wonder why anyone would try burning.

...

That's crazy that he'd send you an entire dvd player! Definitely sounds like the disk itself, not the player.

How do you convert to DVD? How hard is it to do? I have a lot of tapes that I would like to convert. What equipment is needed to do this.
email me at mr8ball@comcast.net
Thanks

Crazy but true. I just took that as a guy who wanted to ensure that his customers are happy with his product. Also, dont forget I did buy a whole set of 52 or 53 dvd's - which didn't come cheap.

Hi Ron,

There are a lot of dvd recorders out on the market now which are twin loaders. Put the cassette in one side and a blank dvd in the other... They are quite cheap in Europe and I've seen a few in the states but no prices.

Or you could hook up a vhs player to a pc and rip the content to hard disk. Software and cables in packages like Haupage or EyeTV if you have a mac. Just run the UHF ariel cable through the vhs before you tune the receiver. Then when you play a tape you will see it on that channel, on the computer.

Depends on how many you want to convert I guess.

He can play...... but his material is less than stellar. But he has a ton of stuff out there..... for 30-50 bucks a pop.
Hmmmmmmm.....
Well DING DONG DADDY..... you just bought Bert the blue Caddie.

In some cases there's a small amount of residual mold release on the disc - even though it's new. It interferes with the reading laser. Try gently washing the disc with a drop of dishwashing liquid and then drying it using a paper towel. This has worked for me on many occasions (but not all). Worth a try.

Thanks Pete. I'll try it on one disk, although I have never heard that fix before.

I don't know what the problem is. I have Mika's DVD's and they are very good but they also stick in a few places. Bought John's 400 run and had problems with it. A freind tried it on his player and it didn't work at all. Tried different players and some work better than others. Have no problems at all with Little Joe's DVD's

Bought a used Bert's $100 DVD and it skips and stops in a lot of places. Glad that I didn't pay $100 for it.

Have a set of Pro Skill Drills and have no problems. Don't have any problem with Bob Hennings DVD's either.

bert tapes

I dont agree that the tapes are bad in content. If you have a table and use the drills as he has them, your game will improve. I started with the 9 pointed star and my game improved tons. I had no help or teacher or any lessons other than berts tapes. THe tapes do get repetetive through each lesson but he shows what happens to a student as he is learning as shows the mistake you will encounter.

Maybe the quality of the new dvds arent up to par. But the drills and knowledge i leaned from them are way more than anyone was willig to share with me.

Just my thoughts.
