The Fanciest DW Envelope Case in Existence!!!

Hi All,

Here's the latest and greatest case by The Grumpy Old Cowboy (DW Cases). It was custom made for the guy that bought his first case ever, and is as fancy as I've ever seen a for a cue case. The fit and function are unbelievable and the craftsmanship is second to none.

The concho, buckle, gather, and tip strap are sterling silver with gold accents. The interior is natural suede pigskin and utilizes PVC tubes for the shafts. The triangular butt/shaft configuration is compact and has the butt infront of the shaft tubes.

The handle has been braided and the attachment to the case body is via hand tied sinew, as opposed to metal rings. The top is darted and braided and is very unique.

The tooling on this case is virtually three dimensional and the shading contrast in the stains makes it pop out you. The lady in the picture is very subtle and gives the case a feeling of an old painting of a mythological wood nymph. The case is tooled everywhere you could put tooling, but it is all tied together so it doesn't appear busy or cluttered.

It was pretty pricey, but when the hours were calculated that were spent on the case, it seemed like it should have been considerably more expensive.

I'll show a bunch of pictures, as this case needs to be seen from several angles to truly appreciate the work that's been put into it.

Hopefully, now Grumpy will be able to spend a little more time on cases for the rest of us!

Steve

The taste is sorta like a cross between fur seal and bald eagle...

Well said, On that note I really like that case. It is different.

Great case. More of a tube case than an Envelope. To me a envelope
lays flat Than round. Cool case how ever you say it.

Beautiful

Is that considered an Envelope Case? If so, it is the most beautiful one I've ever seen Steve and knowing you, you will never part with it.If so please let me know.

Lol.. I have to share a quote someone just said to me in my leather crafting workshop.... 'there just isn't enough nudity in leather crafting'.

Beautiful case. Fantastic design and execution. It's a great collectors piece for sure. Congrats!

Thanks for your comments!

Fatboy, the case tasted suspiciously like chicken! Good eye for aesthetics, and thanks for your post.

Hotcues, I think you're probably right on the money. He has always made flat (or slightly raised) cases in the past, so I might be borrowing terminology. I guess I thought that it referred to the flap at the top which folds over like the flap on an envelope. One of the first areas the casemaker adressed when he started making cases was the fact that he didn't like the typical fold over flap because it didn't offer the best protection since the sides were open. This top is a unique answer to that. It's still a foldover flap, but the body ended up being like a tube when he changed the configuration of the case.

Thanks Glen! If you look real hard, you can just get a glimpse of the full frontal nude on the case. It's like one of those art prints that you have to stare at for five minutes before the real picture appears...

HEH, I thought you'd like this one! You are the second person to own one of these DW cases, and I hope it treats you well. Yours is very unique, too. I have a feeling that so few of these will be made that one day it might be a good thing to own. I'll touch base with you on the general $ range, and I'm absolutely impressed with the Cash Cue!

Tommie, please see the above about the envelope/tube quandry. I don't own this one, but I'm working on cherry picking just the right one. Being the maker's salesman's got to have a few perks...;)

Thanks Rusty! He said he put in about a day just working on the handle. You are sure turning out some nice cases these days!

Rex, you'd rethink your statement about not enough nudity in leather crafting if you saw the maker making cases naked. A guy could go blind just visualizing that scenario! Hey, wait, that wasn't what you meant...:D

Thanks for your post, Mr. Schlosser! You're from Coon Rapids? How're the mosquitos this year? I used to live down the road from you in Brooklyn Park, worked in Fridley, and shot a little pool with some thugs from Anoka and Coon Rapids. I miss MN this time of year (I live in Phoenix now where its 157 degrees for most of the summer), as well as the fall and spring. It's just those winters...

Thanks PMS! Great avatar you have there!

Justin, I think the final verdict is that it's more a tube case than an envelope. Good call and thanks for looking!

Billiardshot, I also think that the way he did the lid is cool and very unique. He actually does form a lot of different parts on his cases. If you look at the previous threads, with some of his other cases he actually formed the bottoms and bodies of the cases so they would have a rounded shape. Thanks for your comment!
