I know there are all sorts of talented people here on azbilliards and wanted to maybe give someone the idea of creating a pool table diagram iphone app such as http://talk.cuetable.com/. I looked around and could not find anything out there and I think it would be a great tool.

A while ago I was thinking about developing an iPhone app that would allow the user to take a snapshot of a table from nearly any angle, following which the software would display an accurate overhead view. The overhead view could then be saved.

Another iPhone app that I thought would be useful would be a database of diamond systems for 3-cushion. Although someone can simply use a browser on an iPhone to access websites with 3-cushion systems, it'd be nice to have a dedicated app.

Writing software takes a lot of time, and I'm not sure there'd be enough demand to justify the hours required to create a robust program.

Wei's cue table is rely on Flash technology, a plug-in that iPhone Safari web browswer doesn't support. According to one estimate, it takes 160 man hours or $10K and up to develop an iphone app.

Rethunk, I like both of your ideas. The first one is similiar to what I had in mind. Take a snapshot and import the results into an existing app like Virtual Pool. Once the table layout has been imported, then you can play around with shot selection, projected cue ball travel. Maybe there is a niche for this amongst APA team captains.

the question has been asked before, as soon as iphone supports flash we'll get a weitable app. And theyve been saying flash support is coming for like a year already.

I've thought about a few that I might write, but I haven't had the time (or maybe the will) to sit down and put them together.

1. Single-Elmination Chart for tournaments
2. Double-Elmination Chart for tournaments - more complex because there doesn't seem to be a standard for how the one-loss side gets populated
3. Break speed calculation based on break sound for known distances
4. Easy posting to AZ! :p
5. Tournament locating based on location services

There's a bunch more that could be done. Any of these sound cool? :p

I like these, they would be great!

Samiel,

As an alternative to creating a dedicated iPhone app, items 1 and 2 could be hosted on an iphone/mobile format friendly website as either file in excel or word format.

iPhone/Mobile friendly websites usually have a smaller page, in order to view it on the the iPhone set the maximum screen width to 480 pixels. This can be accomplished with a CSS style sheet (web template page).

Make a web clip (iphone version of a web shortcut) and you can put in on the springboard (iphone desktop). One advantage of a web clip versus a iPhone app is avoiding iPhone app approval process, which can take up to 3 months.

I agree on item 4, even in iPhone quick style mode, its a shame that posting a reply only a tiny box that only displays 22 characters by 3 lines at a time.

If you have Cydia on your iPhone, maybe you can contact those guys about creating these programs. They have a app called Imobilecinema that is a flash player for the Iphone for viewing most flash videos(videos that have a slash through the play button), unfortunately it doesn't support Cuetable charts at this time. It does work on Google,Yahoo, etc videos that have great pool matches that Youtube doesn't have, even in desktop/classic view on all players, even Youtube. Ron

More apps

I just found iLocate- searchable data base for poolhalls wherever you are.
. locates
. view by map or list
. contact info & directions

I also found HST Player Notes- Player tracking & note system designed to identify players previously encountered.
. user can store pics
. view by location
. add more info as it's acquired
. can use for any game pool, poker etc.

These apps are getting pretty slick.
