No two individuals have had a larger impact on organized pool for the last thirty years than Larry Hubbart and Terry Bell. They are the fathers of the national amatuer pool league industry. They should be recognized for that!

I thought Johnny Archer and Allison Fisher were already inducted this year.

Do you mean for next year?

When Keith, Grady, and Louie get in, then we can start looking at others. Until then, its lost its charm with me.

JMO.

I think Paul was referring to them being inducted for meritorious (spelling?). Pat Fleming and Mike Massey were inducted under these criteria last year. Johnny and Allison are in for the great Player category.

For Grady's sake, I sure do wish it would happen for him. He has contributed a great deal to the sport, and his heart is just so much into pool. Like some great artists, they don't seem to be remembered until after they are gone. What a shame! I'd like to see it happen now, so that Grady can enjoy it!

"Fathers of the national pool league industry"?

If you mean the first to achieve huge profits, perhaps. But there were many earlier leagues that did the hard ground work, including the National Pocket Billiard Association out of Milwaukee that pre-dated the APA by almost twenty years. And let's not forget the BCA and VNEA, that began about the same time...and they've been successful without the financial backing of the APA.

Having played in some ten different league systems since 1966, and spoken to thousands of players, I find that those who have experienced multiple league systems generally do not make the APA their first choice.

Unless a player is up in years and from the midwest, he is more than likely to never have heard of the NPBA. I can only imagine that this is/was a struggling regional group. Hubbard and Bell deserved the recognition that they received in 2010 for their national accomplishments. They paved the way.
