ATTN* Paypal issue!

Hey,

I'm pretty sure this is the appropriate place for this thread even though I'm not exactly selling anything. This is directly related to how most of us pay for cues: PayPal. Mods, if you want to move this, please do so and let me know where it belongs. Thanks!

I've encountered a problem with this "PayPal Security Policy" of restricting instant transfers. They grey out the instant transfer option when sending payment as Personal. It says you have to have a Bank Account with Credit Card backup in order to use this option which entails "no fees" for either party. However, this "Security Policy" randomly screens your transaction and if it finds it to be "risky" they limit your funding options. I got off the phone after a long talk with PayPal and got no answers. I have more than sufficient funds in both my Bank Account and Credit Card backup. They still insist it's random and designed for my safety. I call bullshit. I think they just want more fees to be paid to their coffers.

Has anyone else tried sending money through the Personal option and gotten this "You will pay fee/recipient will pay fee" option? You're limited to eCheck or Credit Card as payment options. eCheck takes 3-5 business days to clear. Annoying. Credit Card means you put a balance on your Card and if you don't pay it off in time or whatever other reason you don't pay it off at the end of the month, you pay interest. Both eCheck and Credit Card now charge a fee for transfer. What ever happened to the immediate transfer straight from your bank account w/ no fees??

I'd like to see if anyone else has had this issue with PayPal.

Haven't seen it yet, but I don't doubt it.

I always ask that people pay with an Instant Transfer from their bank account to avoid fees on my end. I have a "Personal" account, so I get dinged pretty heavy when someone pays with a credit card.

On my most recent sale, the buyer did pay with a credit card, but added $10 to cover the fees on my end. He didn't mention if he was "forced" into this method of payment. I just assumed that he didn't have the cash available at the moment.

It wouldn't suprise me at all if Paypal is doing this to generate more income from fees. That's exactly what the banks are getting all the flack about right now.

I figured I'd put it out there since it's a 2.9% fee on transactions...

The more stressing point is that their excuse of, instant transfer only available if you have bank account with credit card backup, does not really apply. I have the funds and requirements but their "security for your own benefit" program supersedes the requirements I've already fulfilled.
