Several month ago our Community Pool Room retired some Pool Balls Sets that I wound up with, in the end I had about 10 Full, and Partial Sets of Cue King Balls that were made in China, not in good shape, but need a home. Talked with a pool friend on the East Coast as I need an idea what to do with the Ball Set, and ask if he had any ideas.

To paraphrase his replay was something like when I am on the road doing my Trick Shot Show, I have been visiting Boys Clubs (now Boys, and Girls Clubs) for years do FREE POOL CLINICS, and have been dropping off Pool stuff for years at these clubs because most have nothing.

My reply was we don’t have no Boys Clubs out by me, and he said yes you do, and an e-mail arrived as we spoke with a link to the Phoenix Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs.

So I made a phone call to the administrative offices in Phoenix, was transferred to a lady name Bridgett, I explain the situation with the Ball Sets, asked if they could use them. She said yes, and we talked about the demographics of the members.

These kids who are members of the Boys & Girls Clubs in the Metro Phoenix Area are most from poor homes, don’t have Cell Phones, WII’s , X-Boxes, or have been to a Pro Sporting Event, as they family is what I will call getting by. The Boys & Girls Club is where they go to have fun, like when i was a kid, and it was the Boys Club.

At the end of the conversation I told Bridget I would drop the Ball Sets of at the Peoria Arizona Club Site about 12-15 miles from be, and I thought it would end there.

So a few days later I drove over to the Peoria Club and meet the Program Director, Anthony. I give him the Ball Sets, and he says two things. First is something like wow we now have enough Ball Sets for all our Pool Tables, and second is would you like to see the club, offering me a tour.

So being polite I say yes and he shows me what I call the “little kids area” where they got two Pool tables, next we go back to the “teen center” where they got one Pool Table.

During the tour he shows me their Cues with MANY NO TIPS, and finally I ask what do you use for CHALK, Anthony replies something like he has been at this Club 8 month or so, and they had not CHALK when he got here.

I ask Anthony why all the (3) Pool Tables are different brands, and have different colored cloth. His reply is something like we most work off of donations.

Now for some crazy reason a little light goes off in my head, and I make a post on AZB, on 8/30/2009-Titled, Anyone have WARPED Pool Cues, or other Pool Stuff like?????????????????????.

Well the response from AZB Members from all of the U.S.A., as far away as the Philippines, and China has been unbelievable.

People have sent Cues, Ball Sets, Cue Balls, Chalk, Instructions DVD’s, and VHS’s, Table Brushes, a Wall Racks, Tips, a Tip Repair Kit, and other stuff for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

This week I made another delivery to Anthony and ask how his Club Site, and Teen Center were doing. He said theirs was now the “BEST” far a Pool equipment goes because of the item sent, and many of the items brought over to the Peoria Site have been taken to the weekly directors meeting, and are make their way to the other clubs, and teen center sites.

At this point I would like to thank all of you who have sent items for my project, also this week I had some news that the BCAPL was going to get involved in this project. Plus a Regional Pool Publication maybe doing a story on the Pool needs of the Phoenix Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs in November, and last a League Operator in the Valley of the Sun may also get involved. Trying to get his members to help fill the wish list of the Boys, and Girls Club.

So at this point I will say again, THANK YOU ALL who gave, and their is still a need with 12 Sites, & their Six Teen Center where there is a Total of 33 Pool Tables, Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs still has their WISH list.

This week I had also got an e-mail from Anthony Boss the Area Director who sees that everything the Boys & Girls Clubs received get put to use.

The e-mail stated in Part, “We’re very thankful for all of the help that you and your friends have extended our way. Again, I’ll put out the request to our clubs to put together a list of any additional needs that they have. Have a wonderful day!”

I got an e-mail with the wish list of items still needed by the other club sites, and teen centers.

The wish list is.

Pool Cues any weight

Bridge heads

Ball sets

Table Brushes

Racks /Triangles

Cue tips

Chalk

Cue Repair Kits with Glue

Wall or Floor Rack to Store Cues

Plastic BLACK Pool Ball Holder sfor Storing a Set of Pool Ball

If anyone has anything they wish to contribute at this point, I am going to post an address to the Administrative Center of the Phoenix Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs, and Contact Person to whom items can be sent.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix
Del E. Webb Administrative Headquarters
Attn.: Von Mignan-Area Director
2645 North 24th Street
Phoenix, AZ 85008

If you would like a TAX DONATION RECEIPT when you send something please include a self addressed stamped envelope, and description of what you are sending, and approx. value including what it cost to send it.

I ask for the self addressed stamped envelope to be sent, because the Boys & Girls Clubs are under funded, under staffed, much of what they do is because of donation, and it will help them.

I have had several members PM me and ask why I got involved in this, honestly I started playing Pool about 1954 in a Boys Club in Miami, Florida. It was a great life experience, and it is a way I was able to give back 50+ years later.

The last suggestion I will make is that there are Kids playing Pool in, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA's, Teen Centers, City & County Recreation Centers right in you own back yard in many area of the U.S.A., and through the World. Many of the places that these kids are play Pool have little or no equipment, are under funded, and would be a great place for you to get involved as I did with our Local Boys, and Girls Club.

These kids are the FUTURE OF POOL, they are the future tournament players, league members, and now is the time to invest in the future of this great sport if it is to survive in to the future. Might be something you all might want to get involved with if you want to support Pool today. IMHO.

I am post this on the weekend so as many AZB Members can see this. Please if you see the thread is dying, give it a little.

The Forum Members deserve the credit NOT ME!

Honestly when I posted on AZB, on 8/30/2009, Anyone have WARPED Pool Cues, or other Pool Stuff like?????????????????????. If the people on this forum had ignored the post none of the wonderful things that have happened would have happened. Those are the people who really deserve ALL the credit IMHO........:bow-down:

Great job you did Cowboy  . Here's a prediction I'm going to make. 20-30 years from now, one of those kids is going to remember the boys and girls club and is going to do the exact same thing that you did :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

You're doing a great job CC, keep up the good work.
Pretty soon this will spread further than the Phoenix area and it'll be a full time job for you.

I need a full time job like I need a hole in the head. Ill pass on the full time job, NO Thanks.

I do hope the idea spreads, and I know of one member who has started a Pool Club for Teen at the Jr. High School where he works, this is like a long food journey started that starts with a single foot step, and ends after many steps.

I hope others thing about doing the same in other part of this country, and the world. We got a bunch of Certified, and non Certified Instructor Members who could do Pool Clinics at the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA's, Teen Centers, City & County Recreation Centers near where they live.

How many times has someone on the Forum made a statement about “supporting pool”? This is supporting both Pool, and the future of pool. IMHO

Thunder Thighs was the Forum Member in the Philippines, who had a Gross of Master Blue sent to the Boys & Girls Clubs in the Metro Phoenix.

Thanks for the start Coco,
This is a great beginning toward what it could become....but only if others will get involved and keep the ball rolling. If you don't look around where you live and say ask yourself what you could do to help promote pool in your own backyard then it will die...
If on the other hand you actually want to walk the walk, and not just talk the talk..
Get involved in some form or another. If you dont have extra stuff to donate maybe an hour of your time to teach, everyone on this forum is a teacher : )
You can't just wait on the next person to do it you have to step up.

Mark is it true you have started a Pool Club where in the School where you work? Tell about it.

The 2009 JR. Nationals were held 10 miles from me at ISU. I talked with Laura Smith of the BEF and Earl Munson the tournament director about the program they have. Earl has 13 schools (I believe) involved in billiards. Brunswick had 5 new GC5's brought in for the finals.
I had wanted to get billiards in the JR High I worked at, but never really thought it would work out, especially in this economy, in the past we had taken the math class to ISU for a day on the tables, and that is how I figured it would stay.
Isu decided to purchase the 5 new tables and replace some of their older ones.
I checked into purchasing some for my school (cheap), the principle agreed to purchase
and we now have 2 at our school.
Ivan Lee donated new 860 cloth, Gr cues donated 12 Cues,
BEF donated Aramith balls from the tournament, I bought jacks and hardware to move the tables( I move them out twice a week for class), covers chalk etc.
I have 24 students now enrolled in the first Chiddix JR. High Billiards Club.
I divided theem in to Tuesday and Thursday groups.
I hope to expand into the 2 other JR. Highs in my district, and then the 2 High Schools.
You never know when the door will open.... but you always have to be looking!!!

WOW...............:thumbup2:

Good things are happening.

I was out last night on another mission and went by one of the other Phoenix Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs Branches near 23rd. Ave., and Missouri in Phoenix, same story as Peoria Branch they have Two Pool Tables a total of like Seven Cue, three have No Tips.

Spoke with the Staff Members on duty in the Teen Center, the story is Cash Donations are down maybe because of the RECESSION, and most of what they are getting now to keep things going is from the generosity of other like those on AZB who are support their Pool program.

I got a commitment for a care package sort of from a company that manufacture Pool Chalk so hopefully a couple more gross will be distribute amounts the 12 Clubs, and 7 Teen Center.

Did get a phone call this after noon from the lady I deal with in the Administrative Offices of the Boys & Girls Clubs, and apparently she has been contacted by BCAPL, and the Local League operator who is also going to support this program I called “CUE FOR KIDS when it started. Also suspect one more League operator will get on board.

I am hoping with a few irons in the fire by Christmas all Phoenix Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs Branches are well stock with Cues, Chalk, Table Brushes, Wall & Floor cue Racks, etc. on their wish list.

I am also hopping other AZB Members will get involved where they live with the places kids play have NEEDS, as I have tried to do where I live.

Got Questions, Suggestions, etc. PM ME. THANKS,

Has been a great weeks so far.

Well I just got home from the Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs, Peoria Branch, 8 more Old Cues that were collecting dust are getting put to use by the kids.

The Pool Cue Wall Rack that was delivered last week, that was sent me by an AZB Member is in the Peoria Teen Center getting use. More Wall & Floor Racks are still needed. HINT.

Local Newspaper in the West part of the Valley of the Sun shot photos for story that hopefully will net a few more Cues for the Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs. The thing I call Cues for Kids. When the story is in the paper I will post a link for you all to read.

The League Operator in the Valley of the Sun I spoke of in post #1, who wanted to get involved with Cues for Kids, has. He is a BCA League Operator, he has join in to help this kids:wink: Clink Link to Right. He is also taking in donations of Pool Items for the Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs, at his Bar-The Northern Lounge in Glendale.

Has been a great weeks so far. List of Items still needed by the Metropolitan Boys & Girls Clubs for their Youth Pool Program is in post # 1 above, and has been updated.
