So I'm sitting here watching the WPBA tourney in Colorado on ESPN and I've found my self muting the sound, but NOT BECAUSE OF COMMENTARY!!!

Is it just me or is the clapping after EVERY SINGLE SHOT the most ANNOYING THING I've ever seen? Pan just made a horrible position shot. I mean HORRIBLE... and they clapped. No, not as loudly as the routine shot in the corner of approx 4.5 inches between the cue ball, the object ball, and the pocket, but they clapped enthusiastically none the less.

I don't fault the WPBA, or the players and I can understand wanting to generate excitement. I've also been to enough live recordings to understand what they are trying to do, but give me a break! It is NOT NECESSARY to clap after shots my 2 year old has a good chance to make. I just think it trivializes the game. You can even tell the VIP's around the table don't really want to clap and you can see the looks of annoyance when the people to their left and right clap, clap, clap, clap and they feel compelled to join in. They look like "I just want to sit here and watch some good pool, leave me alone!" Even the players looked annoyed

I've watched plenty of snooker on tv as well as other televised pool events and I've never notice so much ridiculous clapping after the most basic, routine shots that just about anyone with hands can make. The average viewer can't even tell when a great shot IS made because the applause never ceases.

Sorry to complain but it's out of control IMO. ( I guess I'm in a bad mood because the Cowboy's look like crap... again!):D

It's like those hokey old comedy shows that held up a "laugh" sign for the audience after every line, funny or not. :(

some of the commentary bugs me too.....I think just about everyone who is watching (besides people like my girlfriend who is forced to watch because of me) play pool. Can we stop explaining why balls are round and what a pocket is....

I can't watch when they start that crap! Makes it so annoying. And the cowboys are starting to warm up. That toss to austin was pretty nice.

I acutally don't mind the commentay as much since they are trying to educate the viewers about what is going on and why the players do certain things in specific situations. If the shot, position, safe, jump, masse or whatever is worthy, please clap all you want. I got no problem with recognizing when someone execute a shot well. BUT.....the Cowboy's are starting to make things happen so I am not AS annoyed :D

You should be a Rams fan!!!! LOL Then you have reason to be annoyed! At least the Cowboys have won some games!! Of course I had to go to the game today because my son is a COLTS fan!!! I just wonder how many Red Zone interceptions is a record!!!! Bulger has thrown about 10 or so already! Back to the subject. I did watch some of the semi's and you are right they will clap for anything!!! "OH MY GOD PAN TOOK A BREATH OF AIR! APLAUDDDDDDDD!!!!

Have you ever

watched Japanese Pool on the net? Now that is excitement!!!

I agree, clapping after every shot is annoying. I have seen them hold up a cue card to make the audience clap though.

Doug why don't you move your cue making to Denver so i can bug you in person and you can root for the Broncos? They are undefeated.
Also i agree the clapping is very annoying.

I was in the audience of a WPBA finals...before the show begins, the audience is told to clap...

Will you be removed from your seat if you don't act like a robot and clap?

Nope...but I almost left the seat I paid good money for. Some fat broad sitting near me insisted on doing a shrill & loud fingers in the mouth whistle after every mundane shot Karen Corr made. Literally made my ears hurt!
She didn't get the hint even when I started plugging my ears with my fingers...

yes I've been there to and they do encourage clapping. I can understand clapping on wins, breaks, great shots, coming out of commercials(for taping), stuff like that. 'But I've NEVER heard them encourage clapping at simple, routine shots that make the viewer look ridiculous :D. However, most of the people at these events(at least the one's I've been to like the BCA event in vegas) are educated viewers. Surely they realize it's riduclous to clap at some of these shots. Add to that the clapping at MISTAKES!!!! yikes, that just makes you look like a koolaid drinking robot... no thanks!

Well Your not alone on this one , I myself was watching it and remeber a thread eariler this week about the Clapping and was a little pissed about all the clapping , the commentary is ok in my book but sometimes not needed , I find it hard somedays to listen to Mitch and Ewa talk , Mitch is like a broken record always talking about what products there using .

I like listening to the Billiard Club network commentary better .

That figures. I was watching this same event and was wondering if they had one of those blinking applaud signs. I was flipping back and forth between this and the world pool masters from a year ago or something. SVB was playing Nick Van den Berg and Shane made a couple really nice outs that involved some very tricky shot making and positioning and the crowd never made a peep but erupted when he sunk the 9. I feel the constant applause cheapens the play. The annoying thing to me is that there are many shots that do deserve applause but they just get mixed in with the rest. I personally would not clap unless something happened that was worthy of applause, and a stop shot isnt it.
