So I'm sitting here watching the WPBA tourney in Colorado on ESPN and I've found my self muting the sound, but NOT BECAUSE OF COMMENTARY!!!
Is it just me or is the clapping after EVERY SINGLE SHOT the most ANNOYING THING I've ever seen? Pan just made a horrible position shot. I mean HORRIBLE... and they clapped. No, not as loudly as the routine shot in the corner of approx 4.5 inches between the cue ball, the object ball, and the pocket, but they clapped enthusiastically none the less.
I don't fault the WPBA, or the players and I can understand wanting to generate excitement. I've also been to enough live recordings to understand what they are trying to do, but give me a break! It is NOT NECESSARY to clap after shots my 2 year old has a good chance to make. I just think it trivializes the game. You can even tell the VIP's around the table don't really want to clap and you can see the looks of annoyance when the people to their left and right clap, clap, clap, clap and they feel compelled to join in. They look like "I just want to sit here and watch some good pool, leave me alone!" Even the players looked annoyed
I've watched plenty of snooker on tv as well as other televised pool events and I've never notice so much ridiculous clapping after the most basic, routine shots that just about anyone with hands can make. The average viewer can't even tell when a great shot IS made because the applause never ceases.
Sorry to complain but it's out of control IMO. ( I guess I'm in a bad mood because the Cowboy's look like crap... again!)
