I Just arrived over in Mobile to find out that Mike the one pocket player from miss. has been murdered he was a very nice guy and i really dont understand why anyone one would hurt him. He was found today at or around about 5 pm if anyone has contact info on his family please lets all of az help if we can

OH MY GOD! That is truly terrible!! I met him a few times and played him in a tournament. He was a really cool guy. I hope there's been some mistake here and that it's not him...

This is terrible news...

I had sold a few cues to Mike over the years...he was very nice to talk to...I never met him in person though...

He played real well at the DCC a few years back but I never caught one of his matches...

My Prayers go out to his family.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Edwards

I heard through the grapevine that it is Mike Surber. :(

This is a tragedy. The murderers should be strung up by their testicles in a tree before the heat gets 'em.

I'd like to see them dropped in a swamp with a crew of alligators, never to be heard from again.

Greed being more important than a man's life is not acceptable.

Now I understand why there's a death penalty. Eye for an eye....

I hope this isn't Mike Surber. He is my friend for over 30 years. We met in Mobile or Baton Rouge over a pool table naturally. I played him One Pocket all day and night and only that one time. A great guy and a damn good player. He did carry money though, so that makes him a target for lowlifes.

Please find out what happened and let us know.

I'm doing a little digging, trying to find out some more details.

I did read that Mike Surber came in 10th place at the Derby City Classic earlier this year in the Banks Division at the Horseshoe Casino in Indiana.

Below is a picture from OnePocket.org website, along with this article when he came in second place at the Carolinas Open one-pocket tournament in 2005: http://www.onepocket.org/CarolinasOpen2005.htm

The guy on the right, in the picture, is indeed Mike Surber. However, I hope it isn't him that the Sun Herald newspaper article that Lou F. sent along is about.

Gosh, this would be TERRIBLE news if it were -- Mike is such a kind guy, and a terrific player. (I'm using the present-tense "is" in the hopes that the article is not about him.)

Wow, I was there when Mike made his deep run in the DCC 1P event. I took an immediate liking to him for his quiet nature & the fact that he was competing in the big leagues...to the dismay of many of the witnesses.

Rest in peace, Mike.

I didn't know the man, I only spoke to him a couple of times in passing. I watched him play Shannon 2 or 3 years ago at Derby in the banks. Shannon had been steamrolling right along and was very confident in how he was playing. Mike played exceptionally and beat Shannon pretty soundly. After the match I was talking to Shannon and he said "that guy is a player, and a real gentleman in our sport". It seem she was held in pretty high regards by many.

I have never heard anyone speak badly of Mike and that is a big testament to anyone in the pool world. I hope they find out what happened and some form of justice prevails.

car was still in the pool room parking lot...carried money alot...found dead at his home. Sounds like he was abducted in the parking lot and taken back to his house to try to find more money.

I watched him play in the DCC 1p matches and he looked to play a very strong moving game. Reminded me some of Steve Cook in his mannerism and playing style.

:(
condolences to friends and his family-
r.i.p

hope the police will have an *easy job* to find those mofo...

It is Mike Surber, aka Biloxi Mike. Hopefully, more information will become available. Word on the street is that his cue sticks were stolen. If that is the case, it is definitely a homicide. I think missing cue sticks and the back of your head opened up should be ruled homicide.

The world is full of anger & hate. People are striking out against their fellow man all over the country.

The hate and anger seem to be fueled by the lack of economic opportunity (jobs), poverty in general and unfortunately religion too. Economics & religion seem to be the driving force behind these latest crimes.

Drugs seems to be taking a back seat to economics and religion. It starts to make me wonder if legalizing weed would help people cope with their problems or just make them worse. It's a sad state of affairs. :(

Mike, you were a gentleman and a friend to all who knew you. And yeah, you were a very good pool player.

RIP Mike Surber.
