New woman 9 ball champ. Beat Karen Corr in the finals 9-5. Manage to catch the last half of the match. Have to say i am impress . She is a qualifier from what i heard. Youngest female to win a 9 ball event. Her first ever big tournament . Thats the 3 record according to the commentator

Put a 5 pack on Karen and ran six racks of her total 9 wins. Unbelievable! I'd say she had a future.:)

A world Champion at 16. Beating karen is no easy task and putting on a legit 5 pack (as reported) is pretty unreal. You rarely see the men do that.

AT any rate, in all likelihood she will spurn the WPBA where she would have to run around to regional events to qualify and stay in Asia and eek out a better living. Not to mention, she probably will stay in school for a while.

impressive play!

I don't know her age or if the other information is correct but one thing for sure, she is a very impressive player. I just watched the match. She started horribly missing some simple kicks to get out of safes and went down 5-1. It was starting to look like a walk away for Karen. Then Liu made contact on a kick, maybe for the first time in the match after a safe, and managed to win that game after some back and forth. She followed that with five break and runs only ending that streak with a scratch on the break. A much happier and more confident Liu proceeded to put the match away despite another scratch on the break.

I haven't watched any of her other matches but to say she was impressive in the second half of this one is putting it mildly. The lady is someone to watch in the future.

Xiaofang Fu,the fourth place finisher, and ShaSha Liu, the world champion, are first cousins.

ShaSha Liu: world 9-ball champion,Karen Corr 2nd
Xiaofang Fu: fourth place in world 9-ball championship, third place in China Open
Rubilen Amit: World 10-ball Champion
Pei Chen Tsai: China Open Champion, Karen Corr 2nd
Chieh-Yu Chou: Amway cup champion, Karen Corr 2nd
Shin-Mei Liu: second place in World 10-ball Championship

Imagine if they all attend WPBA, the top 16 in every tournament will be a dogfight and anyone can beat anyone. Of course, that wouldn't happen.

I watched this match live as well as the one prior to it where Xiao Ting Pan had the opportunity to advance to the finals and gave it away.

This young lady has much to learn but her raw firepower is astounding. She made some great outs to win this match. Karen Corr could only shake her head.

Karen played great. Every single one of her safeties in the beginning were brilliant and very well thought out. I can't believe how the match just seemed to disintegrate before Karen's eyes. She totally lost all momentum. How many times is this that Karen has placed second this year at a major event, within grasping hold each time. Perhaps during the next event she should bring a rabbit's foot or wear Irish green for some luck.

I would love to see this Sha Sha come over here and play on the WPBA tour. They have a regional tour somewhere over there now so it's not that far fetched.

As for Karen. Did you notice that she looks like she's having a panic attach in the semi and finals of big tournaments. Johnnyt

I feel the same way. If you're going to get beat then at least there is no shame in losing like this. Karen played great and looked a lot better than she did in the previous match.

Sha Sha just came with it in an unbelievable performance. Only Wu Chia Ching's 5 pack to win when his opponent was on the hill was better in my opinion.

Karen did blow it at the end when she had a simple run out and got out of line. But the writing was on the wall.

The run out that Sha Sha had in the last game was nuts. Breaks in four balls and has a long tough shot with the cue ball buried in the corner. Nails it and runs out like water going downhill.

Hopefully someone will sponsor her and we can see some major firepower on the WPBA tour.

She plays like a guy in my opinion. Maybe she played way over her head but what a time to do it.

I also feel bad for Karen. Tough tough beat there.

Anyone knows why no Phi woman took part in this tournament?

This is just a guess but I think it's because they are not "in good standing" with the WPA member in the Phillipines, the BSCP.

The WPA recognizes the BSCP to nominate players for the WPA events and f players are not on their list they don't get spots nor are they even allowed to qualify.

I believe that the top Filipino women are being managed by other groups that are in opposition to the BSCP. Thus they are not allowed to join the BSCP and subsequently cannot participate in WPA events as they are technically not members of any WPA affiliated organization.

Truly a sad state of affairs. And the WPA's hands are tied here.

The WPA however issued an edict last year that WOULD HAVE allowed all the top players to play in qualifiers. All the players had to do was BECOME a member of the BSCP. That's it. Just fill out the form and pay the dues.

I was assured by Ian Anderson that IF they had done that then they would have been eligible to play in qualifiers for any WPA events. I was told by Ian that the WPA would not allow the BSCP to pull any funny business as a condition of membership like telling the players to sign a statement renouncing other affiliations. Ian said that the BSCP agreed to that. But the players elected not to even do that. Why is unclear but for whatever reason the end result is that those players are barred from participating in WPA sanctioned events in any way except through wildcard spots.

So maybe this has something to do with it. I did miss seeing Rubilen Amit.

Well. Sha Sha did have the firepower. The 1 ball on the final rack was impressive . Also in another rack the 1 ball was almost frozen to the 5 ball. She still opt to go for the pot instead of playing safe. Needless to say, she nail it. Karen was helpless then.

Sad to say there are so many great woman players that we never get to see and probably won't get to see, since it really isn't worth the trouble to qualify for the WPBA.

I can't understand why if you win the World Championship you don't get at least a 3 to 5 year exemption from the WPBA to play in their events. You already proved you can beat the best WPBA players on the grandest stage, so why can't you play in their events? If the WPBA really wants the best players in the world this exemption would help them achieve their goal. I also believe over the long run it will force the US woman players to improve. It would also build more viewing interest from the Asian market where pool is actually popular. If the US market is dead than attack a market that is flourishing.

I agree. But just give a free ride for a year. If their that good they'll earn a spot for the next year. But I can hear the WPBA Players now. "I had to qualifie so should they". So probably never happen. Johnnyt
