DCC Master of the Table Predictions

I just noticed that Efren is still undefeated in Banks after 10 rounds. Brumback is the only other undefeated player.

The other three remaining players with one loss are Pagulayan, Nevel, and Martinez.

Any one of these five players has a strong chance to win the Master of the Table award. Brumback took it down last year, and we all know Efren is always the favorite whenever he's in town (especially now that he has made it so far into the Banks tournament). Nevel and Martinez both have strong one pocket games. And don't forget about Bustamante, the 2008 Master of the Table winner, considering he made it all the way to round 8 in Banks.

Though, something is telling me it is Pagulayan turn to take down the award this year. I'm predicting he gets top 5 in all three disciplines, and I'm going out on a limb (not much so) that he takes down the 9 ball event.

Any other predictions?

I'll pick Larry Nevel to win the Master of the Table for the second time for two reasons:

1. He's in the top 5 in the banks and it's his weakest game of the 3.
2. People might think the world is ending if I picked anyone else. I'd hate for anyone to have a heart attack because of me. lol.

Both Brumback and Efren (surprisingly) bowed out in the 7th round of the one-pocket tournament.

Brumback is currently leading with 136 points and Efren with 116 points (both got 16 points for the one-pocket round).

Though Pagulayan (55 points), Harriman (27.1), Bustamante (18.6), Daulton (40), Martinez (55) are all still alive in the one-pocket round, along with a few others who haven't racked up any/many points in the banks round.

Looks like this is going to be a close race. My horse (Pagulayan) still looks strong, but Rafael Martinez (gave Efren his second loss) could be the dark horse to win the Master of the Table if he puts a good performance in 9 ball.

With Frost's win in the one-pocket tournament, he leaps all the way to second place in points behind Brumback. Here are the current standings...

Brumback 136
Frost 120
Reyes 116
Ochoa 100
Bustamante 98.6
Martinez 98.3
Pagulayan 85
Daulton 83.3

Reyes already has lost a 9-ball match. If Busta or Pagulayan wins the 9-ball (most likely candidates from the above list), they most likely will walk away with the all around.

Don't count out John B. for a second consecutive all around.. He plays everything well and is still undefeated!

Brumback lost in the 6th and 7th rounds in 9-ball. He leads currently with 153.5 points.

Looks like Efren (116) just beat Frost (120) in Round 7, giving them both one loss in the event.

Bustamante surprisingly is out, losing to Moore in the 4th round and Pagulayan in the 5th round, finishing with 105.3 points. Martinez lost to Parica in the 4th round, leaving him with 103.3 points. Nevel is out with 97.5 points. Weird, but I don't think Ochoa (100 points) even signed up for the 9-ball event. I don't see his name anywhere.

Pagulayan is still undefeated in the 9-ball round with 85 points. Daulton is still hanging in there with 83.3 points and with one loss.

So it looks like it's down to a 5-person race...Brumback, Efren, Frost, Pagulayan, and Daulton.

I'm not completely sure, but it seems that if either Efren or Frost wins the next round (8), then they should have enough points to pass Brumback. In order for Efren to overtake Frost, then he obviously has to finish a round above Frost.

Pagulayan and Daulton could still take it down by winning the 9-ball event or becoming runner-up, depending on high Efren and Frost finish.

Should be exciting down the stretch. I'm still rooting for Pags.

Round 9

I can't see the results from round 8, but from the list of matches for round 9, it appears that Frost and Daulton lost (I don't see their names) and Efren won (I see his name) in round 8. Also, it shows that Alex has one loss.

So from this info, I believe Frost finishes below Brumback and Efren leaps ahead of both of them.

However, Alex is still alive. He has to pretty much win the 9-ball event and Efren has to bow out soon for Alex to have any chance to win the award. Things are looking good for Efren.

Apparently Alex just lost to Shannon Murphy in round 9 and is now out.
If that's true, then from my estimations Efren should be the winner of Master of the Table. Someone please confirm.

Does anyone know who Efren played in round 8? Just wondering if he played Alex. If so, I'm sure there would be some "talk".

OMG Efren wins again! Rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Winning the Fatboy challenge and the overall again, he is clearly still Efren. Just amazing.

Just finished Pool Wars the other day Jay, and it was awesome!! Thanks again, and hopefully you find time to publish more in the future.

Wow!

Efrem is the man!

Wow! Congrats to Efren if this is true. :) You make us proud as always.

When he didn't do too well in the last 2 years, I too did think he has run out of gas already... :) but he proves us wrong yet again...

What's even amazing is that...
- He's the only person to repeat as DCC All-around champion and has won it 5 times! (and including a back-to-back in '04/'05)
- He is 55 years old?
- His first and latest (i dare not say last) win comes 11 years apart!!!

Congrats again to the Magician!!!!

Also, there were 4 years in a row he did not attend the dcc, I think because of visa reasons. He would have probably won a ton of titles those 4 years.

Invincible

How many times did Efren proved us wrong once AGAIN! Many times I thought Efren is done yet he still comes out firing.

I think the old man is invincible. I really believe he is a pool God.

So exactly when are the organizers at DCC going to rename the Master of the Table Award to the Efren Reyes Award?
