Maryland State 10-Ball Championship Report
All-Star Billiards in Frederick, Maryland hosted the Maryland State 10-Ball Championship on April 3, 2010. The Easter holiday weekend had an effect on the number of people who could participate, but, by late morning, 50 players began the event. I missed who won the second chance tournament later in the day. Hopefully someone will be able to post those results.
It was hoped that a ring game could be fit in; however, the length of the main event prevented this from occurring. Plans are in the works to dedicate a day just to a ring game or games. This will be announced on AZBilliards once the plans are finalized.
Maryland State 10-Ball Championship Results:
Play consisted of races to 7 on the winner’s side and 5 on the one-loss side. The alternate break format was used to allow everyone a chance at the table.
The field had a number of strong entries such as Manny Chau, Ryan Jones, Chip Klein, Matt Krah, Ryan McCreesh, Brandon Shuff, Scott Tollefson, Shawn Toni, Roger Riley, and Shaun Wilkie. These players continued to advance as the tournament progressed.
Later round action saw Manny Chau taking the hot seat position 7 to 3 over Shaun Wilkie. The one-loss side matches included Brandon Shuff over Ryan McCreesh in a hill-hill battle and Roger Riley winning versus Ryan Jones. Brandon then advanced past Roger to take on Shaun Wilkie. Brandon moved past Shaun in that match to join Manny in the final.
The final was double elimination, with Shuff needing to defeat Chau twice – first race to 7 and the second race to 5. Brandon started well and took the first set 7 to 3. Manny turned the tables in the second set by the score of 5 to 3 to claim the overall win. The final was recorded and should be available for viewing on YouTube within a week or so. The YouTube link will be posted on AZBilliards as soon as possible.
