I'm working on fixing up an old Diamond Professional for a customer of mine. The table was in rough shape but a friend of mine, who is a professional furniture maker, and myself are giving this table a complete makeover. My buddy stripped off all the old finish and stain and totally refinished the entire table. The finish now looks as good as new, however it needed a lot more TLC from my end.
I just finished replacing the wood on the underside of the rails with fresh poplar where it had deteriorated due to multiple re-covers. Here is the progress so far....
There wasn't much left to staple rail cloth into so I had no choice but to replace it with new poplar wood....
I used my router to remove the damaged wood.
Damaged wood has been removed.
I use a disc sander mounted to my radial arm saw to finish the ends off. This works well because I can adjust it to accomodate both the corner angle and down angle of the pocket.
I sand off just enough to make everything smooth, making sure not to remove any of the original wood in the pocket opening area.
Next I'll be installing new Black Diamond K55 cushions, and Tournament Blue Simonis 860.
