You never know who will be there!

Good luck people. You should really enjoy it.....if you enjoy paying high prices for microwaved food, and canned sodas.....or if you have no problem playing on terrible equipment. I dont know about you guys, but straight pool is extremely hard to play when the tables are bad. 7 out of the 14 tables there are messed up, with anything from bad rails, to warped shims, to raised seam lines between slate, different sized pockets on the same table, etc. It just doesnt seem worth wasting $250-300 when a bad pocket could keep your runs low. I have a really good feeling that alot of people are going to be disappionted this year

I don't know what your problem is but I play at Big Daddy's a couple of times each week and the equipment is fine. They have a mix of Gold Crowns and Diamonds and all are in good shape. As in any pool room, there is some wear and tear on the tables but I'm sure they will all be in top notch condition for the tournament.

I dont have a problem, Im stating facts. You can defend that place all you want, but I spent about 6 months playing in there 5-6 days a week, and the tables cost me more matches than any opponent did. I won 3 out of the 4 leagues I played in, so Im no novice player by any means. Tables 16, 17, and 18 all have bad pockets or shims, 13 has a raised seem between the first and second pieces of slate, 14 isnt level, all the Diamonds need the rails changed, etc. Im just making people aware so they can decide wether to waste thier hard earned money on bad equipment, or save it for something better. Im not here to change your mind Rich, but the people who dont know, have the right to know what they are getting themselves into. I could easily come in there and place in the money, but I refuse to let those tables cost me a game, sorry.

I agree with Prettyboy. I have seen him run 127 on a diamond and I know he knows his stuff.

I've played on all of the tables you mention and I never saw the problems you mention. Then again, I don't blame the tables for my losses. In all of my years of playing pool, I have never seen a perfect pool table and I doubt I ever will. There is something a little wrong with every table. I spoke to a number of players during last year's 14.1 tournament. Some of them I have known for quite some time. Not one had any serious complaints about the tables.

BTW, I was at Big Daddy's tonight and I spoke to people who have read this thread and they know who you are. From what they said, I don't think you could "easily come in there and place in the money". It is more like you would go two and out and then complain about the tables causing your loss. They said you are a real PITA, but I guess that is just their opinion. I don't think I know you so I can't agree or disagree. However, I can't respect anyone who would come on a public forum and knock a room owner who I know is trying his best to maintain good equipment.

Can I ask you when and where you saw Prettyboy run that 127?

If it was at Big Daddy's, please tell me who you are and who else saw him do it?

I would just like to verify that run because, from what I was told tonight, Prettyboy would be lucky to run 30 balls, on his best day, on any table.

I agree. Before the economy took a dive it was hard for pool rooms to afford to host events, now its all that most can do to stay afloat.

Kudos to the folks at Big Daddy's for supporting this event and jeers to the sour grapes guy that blames the equipment on his lack of ability.

In my basement, on my table. Next time we have a practice session I will film it for you.

edit: For the record, I have never been to Big Daddy's. I just know prettyboy is very picky about perfect playing conditions.

It doesn't matter

Everyone plays on the same tables. I have no problem with Big Daddy's.

I agree. If it were me, I would be there in a heartbeat. Some people are just perfectionists. I would love to check this place out for myself sometime.

Since Prettyboy is such a perfectionist, I have to assume your table is perfect. However, from what others have said to me, I still can't believe he ran 127 and I will eagerly be waiting for the unedited film of a run of that size.

If you enjoy good straight pool, you should come to Big Daddy's for the tournament, either to play or to watch. I assure you that real players won't be complaining about the table conditions and you will get to see some top notch pool.

The equipment at big daddys have been in good condition when I have played there.I do feel that the gold crowns are way to easy to play straight pool on and a player with a wide open stroke could beat a top 14.1 player because of the easy pockets on gold crowns that are used in alot of tournaments.

I can tell you personally the owners of bid daddys make you feel really welcome to be there and are very knowledgeable about pool compared to alot of poolrooms that have no clue. The tables there have been ok and although i am readyto play this year I still am not sure I can make it to play this year.If I will be playing in the md 14.1 event this year I look forward to all challengers and will be bringing my A game with me so you better win the lag or else its over.

There you have it. A review of the equipment from a player who knows what he is talking about. Take it for what it is worth.

Rich, wait all you want for a video. The dude lives like 5 hours from me and I have no idea when he will be coming over again. I assure you I will film it next time, and post his high run for your viewing pleasure.

By the way, my table IS perfect, thanks for asking:D.

I geuss here is one more comment to the guys out there.I keep hearing the comments that poolhalls are struggling and that is why the equipment is not up to par for tourneys. These comments are bullshit and come from mostly railbirds that probaly cant make 5 balls in a row with ball in hand and since they cant play they like to bash top players as stating this I have had a few of these comments directed at me and I laugh my ass off about them.

First off there is no reasons for not having matching ball sets and new cue balls at least.cue balls cost about 15.00 each and so if you have 20 tables thats 300.00 as for recovering the tables I understand thats a huge cost but they can at least brush and clean them till they can afford recovering them.Any tourneys that I go to from now on I will carry some extra equipment to help out and if others do the same it will help. The staff at big daddys run great events and the equipment is much better that most poolhalls in md.I recently played in a md event and the equipment was the worst i have ever played on and 2 times I sat the cue ball on the table the cue ball wobbled on its own which is unacceptable.

Well like usual I tell like I see it and not like I hear it so for now good luck to the players out there in the upcoming tourneys and try and support your local poolrooms and dont pay any attention to the railbirds and thank the supporters and fans who support our game and the others who bash the players grow up.
