HI just asking a quick question..... my friend found a brunswick with painted on veneers.....is this a brunswick? did they even come out with one..? to my knowledge I don't think they did..... but he says the information he got was that it was a challenger with painted veneers... I am tending to lean towards believing him.... but recently looking a pics .... I cann't seem to find one. any light on this topic would be great thanks.

Yes it is probably a Brunswick-Balke-Collender cue. The Challenger was their entry level label cue and it had stained or painted points not veneers. You can still find these cues for cheap. They were one piece maple and most of the time they are not to straight.

This is very true. I have several of them in my shop. Having been in the pool table business a while back I accumulated a bunch of antique house cues with tables I purchased over the years.

thanks for the information....my friend however insisted the veneers are colored on not the points... oh well hope to take the trip where he lives to see it in person... also are the butterflyed cues from brunswick worth anything?

The value of a vintage cue hinges on many things, but yes some BBC butterflied cues are worth a lot of dough;).

Piercy,

I've seen a lot of Brunswick cues and I have quite a few oldies but I have not seen a Brunswick cue with painted on veneers. True there were Challenger's with painted points, but not the color veneers. My assumprion is that they were done after the fact by somebody.

Here's a little site I put together with some of the old Brunswick catalogs. It shows quite a few of the old catalogs.

None of theses cues had painted veneers, and I've seen enough refinishes to know that Titlists or 26 1/2's or Hoppe Pro's, 360's had usual veneers, many in their natural color and some dyed. Painted veneers? YUCK!
