You didn't specify as to what type of shoe you want (dress, tennis, casual loafer, etc.) I noticed in live streams that when not on ESPN television, a lot of the players are wearing tennis shoes (and shorts in the summertime). In that case, I vote for the New Balance brand of "cross-training" athletic shoe. They seem to be the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have ever had on my feet.

I too have heard good things about the Shape Ups. I may try a pair the next time I need shoes. $120 is not a great sacrifice if the shoes make your feet feel good, imo!!!

Beat up your feet? Are you serious? Playing pool or in general? If you have some footwear problems in the realm of playing pool, then dayyum... you must play some crazy a$$ pool!

I wear sandals. And not just any sandals... these kickers are a couple years old and I'm pretty sure you can smell them from about 2 meters. I definitely use this to my advantage playing pool, keeping them just within sniffer distance of my opponent. Of course, I am immune.

A girl in league last night asked if she could take her sandals off during play. She obviously had no regard for the welfare of her feet... I could hardly believe it...lol.

I am going to look and see if there are any particular undergarments I should wear...

When playing in my carpeted basement, I'm generally barefoot in the summer or in stocking feet when it gets cold.

For the pool hall, however, nothing beats a pair of Keens with a custom footbed. Pricey, yes, but I can still play for hours without pain.

Try the following:

SAS
Ecco
Mephisto

Also Dansko's once they are broken in provide good support.

I suggest that you find an SAS Store Or a shoe store that sells ECCO.

It is very important to wear good shoes & good feeling shoes, for long term period on your feet. One celebrated instructor went as far to say, "the same shoes should be worn when competing, so that you are always at the same height".

IMHO the best thing you can do is look to a company who make good running shoes and see what they have to offer. Personally I always wear Asics, a lot of long distance runners and Tri athletes wear Asics. They have a great range of products from fairly basic, maximum support, cushioned etc etc. I always buy mine at Kohl's who have great sales and I know which ones I want. If you don't maybe try a specialist shoe or sports shop and one that has people who know what they doing, not who just picked the first spotty kid to come in off the street.

The professionals at http://www.phidippidesfootwear.com/ here in Metairie, Louisiana outfit most of the top runners with running shoes as well as the other serious shoe wearers with what they need.

They believe that you have to see which one of the top of the line brand shoe fits your feet best. You have to try them on. I went through several pair before one of them said, "You want me".

That being said, a good friend suggested I start wearing "Birkenstock" shoes because they are the best for your feet. I don't know if they are, or not but my feet no longer ache and I can play for long periods of time without aching feet. I got the oblique-shaped dress shoes and it looks like I have caveman feet but it's all good.

If you have a Phidippedes in your town, go check them out. Our local store makes you walk around the store several times and even encourage you to walk outside the store testing the shoes for comfort on different surfaces.

Alden!

Alden.

The 405 model is the "Indy Boot" (that Harrison Ford wore in the movies). Once broken in (which does not take long as it is glove-soft calfskin) it is like a pair of slippers. I love mine. With 'dockers' and a polo shirt they look fine in an upscale place; with jeans and a t-shirt they look equally welcome in a dive biker-bar.

These (and several others in the Alden range) have an orthopedic design, so they offer EXCELLENT, solid support (not 'squishy', letting your foot roll)- just what you need when playing.

If you get back pain after four hours (or less) playing you will love these. They set you straight (literally) and the back pain goes away.

They have several dressier styles to compliment your suits as well; however get the orthopedic models whenever you can.

NOT CHEAP but exceptional quality, USA made (in Mass.) as they have been for a VERY long time.

I find those type of shoes described as 'skate boarding' too flat for me these days. I will say though I used to wear them all the time a few years ago, the were actually a pair of PUMA GV and Grey Ghost is right they were comfortable. I guess old age is catching up with me............OMG:eek:

For me, the most comfortable shoe's I've had playing pool in are the cross trainers from New Balance and a pair of Dr. Scholl's from Wal-Mart with the gel sole inserts.
