I have a reputation (deserved or otherwise) of being negative. I like to think I just present 'both' sides of an opinion.. be that as it may here is my questions...

If there are 80+ replies to 'This is why pool is DEAD", lets see if there are 80+ replies about 'This is why pool is COOL'

- I cannot think of any other game/sport that is so gratifying when played well.

- the sounds of balls clicking on a table make my head turn every time.

- some of the nicest people I have ever met, I met when playing pool.

- Pool (like most games/sports) develops character

- Pool (like most games/sports) also displays character

of course there is more.. why do you like playing?

Requires high level of concentration, and strategy.

- Competition

- It's meditative, able to tune out everything going on in one's head.

- It's a game most can participate in their whole life. It's not a game that you get inherently too old to play.

Playing pool is fun, entertaining, makes me thing of anything but it when playing and takes me away of the problems going on in my life. That's why I like playing pool.

99% of the to top professionals are fine human beings, and great representatives of the sport. Too bad the other 1% are the ones people remember.

Pool is cool because:

I can go to the Derby City Classic and ride in the Elevator with, ask for autographs from, talk with, etc.. the best players in the World. You can't do that with many other top athletes/stars.

really neat forum members.

- always quick to help other players

- always wishing someone "happy birthday'

- Wei table and Cuetable for players to do graphics.

- Seems eventually in a pool hall, everyone will know your name wether you want them to or not.

- Live is way too short to learn all there is

- pool is a great substitute for sex

- is there a pecking order in your room? if so there are 3 places you fit in.. .the one you think you should, the one the other players think you should and the one you really should be in...

- the first few weeks when the tables have the new cloth on them. It is a special feeling to be able to hit on that NEW cloth.

Pool is cool because:

It has brought all of us together on this forum

I have made alot of friends playing pool

Pool is a great way to get out and have fun with my friends

its something that i strive to become better at every day

I love this game and in my opinion its getting more popular.

The only time pool is cool for me is when I see my Baby Cakes running the table. I love sitting on the rail watching him dance around the table. He is poetry in motion, and *the* only reason I'm even involved in pool today.

I have been trying to get him to take ballroom dance lessons with me as an alternative to pool, but he doesn't want any part of it. You can take him out of the pool, but you can never take the pool out of his heart.

I love him so. I cannot imagine my life today without him in it.:grin-loving:

You can be skinny, fat or pleasantly plump; tall, short, young, or old to hold a cue. You can be a CEO or flippin' burgers, be blond, redhead or a member of the hair color of the month club and learn to draw the rock. You can be a mensa member or developmentally challenged as the "experts" say and still love and enjoy a game of 8, 9 or 10 ball. You can meet some of the most interesting people you may ever meet - some you will like, some you will want to drop kick and some you might even fall in love with...these are some of what makes pool cool.

Also on my person top 10 list? That I could make a license plate that reads
"LuvPool" whereas "LuvShotputting" or "LuvJailai" just didnt' fit.

You get out of pool what you put into it. What you accomplish cannot be taken away, cannot be ignored, and those accomplshments are yours to cherrish.

Pool can be played late in life. I hope I'm playing when I go.

A pool hall is better than any sitcom or TV show. Never a dull moment.

Pool can never be mastered. In fact, in pool, your goals can be reached, but perfection cannot. It's this fact that makes pool a life long challenge. Have fun on the journey.

Hanging around and drinking a draft with Earl will always be more appealing than sipping wine with some douche bag like Jeffery Skilling. Chose your company wisely.

In pool, it's alright to wax your balls and buff your shaft.

Have fun and hit 'em straight-ish.

pool is cool because ...

... what other game can you play for thirteen hrs and when you get ready to go home and you can't remember where you parked your car (pool is the drug).

... it is always there for you. Young or old, sane or senile, athletic or physically challenged; pool is a willing mistress.

I really enjoy this game. It is one of two things I have done that I really enjoy. Playing a perfect rack is like magic.

Pool is great because it is a personal relationship between you and the table. Nothing else matters when you're hitting the balls. It's meditation for me. A way to have fun and learn more about myself.

Pool is cool because....

- You can use it to teach children basic geometery and physics principles

- You can use it to teach children basic life guidelines...such as good sportsmanship, practice makes perfect, and problem-solving skills.

- Every time you break...it's a different puzzle to figure out. Every run-out is unique.

I like Holly's reasons. Those are excellent, and at one time or another, I have enjoyed all of those. :)

- There's no minimum amount of players

- You can do it at home with the right equipment

- Plenty of people from all different walks of life

Playing pool, some of the people I've met are...

- an electrician
- a realtor
- a mechanic
- a painter
- a security guard
- a restaurant owner
- a car dealership owner
- a nanny
- a model
- a construction worker
- a grocery store manager
- a chef
- a graphic designer
- a machinesmith
- a 'toy' salesperson
- an appliance repairman
- a police officer
- a carpenter
- a lawyer
- and many other professions that elude me at the moment

And many sports have a great deal of physical requirements to even attempt to play the game. The majority that cannot meet those requirements are regulated to voicing thier opinions at the television, watching thier heroes make what they consider 'dumb plays' (i.e. armchair quarterbacks).

We've all played the game. And we all have that firsthand experience.

That's what's so great about pool !!!
