Its that time of year again. Derby is right around the corner. This year TAR is going to try something different from past years. Running 24 hours a day in the past has killed us and lets face it at 9 am when its two guys playing $20 one pocket its not really doing much for anyone. This year instead of the 24 hour thing we are going to try a new concept.

We will have a room with two tables in it. One nine foot and one bar box. It will be set up with lights, cameras and mics. We will be able to control entry to the room which means there might be a door charge if/when we organize some matches onsite. Seating will be limited. This is on purpose. Many times players have complained about playing for large numbers only to have Timmy Heath screaming at the top of lungs in a goofy hat on the next table or a random drunk guy bump his elbow when down on a shot.

Our goal with this concept is to provide a top shelf venue and atmosphere for the high end action players and backers. We will provide the nicest arena possible for them and I believe once they see what it's like the only problem will be scheduling the use of the tables. For anyone who saw what the TAR Pit was like at the BCAPL nationals a couple of years ago we are going for that vibe on smaller scale.

We will also be using the room as a studio set up. We will be doing interviews, maybe some instructional things and many updates on what is happening at the Derby. Anyone who is interested in having something filmed is welcome to contact me and we can try to work it out. We will have a three camera set up with live titling, overlays and mixing available as well as wireless mics and all the gear needed to do about anything.

All the streaming will be free. If we set something big up on site we may do a PPV. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the free portion of the stream please contact me. Last year according to Ustream's numbers we had 354,029 total views over the course of the event.

If you are at Derby this year please come by and check out our room and say hello. We'll have some new shirts and new DVD release's with us as well. If you cant make it in person come hang out with us online for the greatest pool show on earth: the Derby City Classic.

What really sucks is I most likely wont be there.

I'm glad you got this finalized buddy, I really hope it works out, I thought about it after you mentioned it to me and I cant think of anything to add to what your doing that would help. I think you have a great plan and it will be a success. Sometimes action just happens with out much notice, but most people are aware of that and will be checking your site or AZB so the viewers should be there should something happen.

Best,
Eric :)

this just made my month, can't wait to be able to sweat Derby action again this year.
I hope you sell as crap load of shirts and DVD's, maybe a big PPV, a brother has to at least break even.

We are just going to try and provide a venue for things to happen in. We'll see how it works I guess. Sucks you can't make it this year. Have a good New Year bro.

Great idea Justin. I should be going so it will be fun to hang out and sweat the action when I cant sleep at night.

Sounds great Justin. Looking forward to seeing some great action there again this year!

This is great news, and I'm super excited to see how it turns out. I had planned on attending, but it's looking like that's not going to happen unfortunately. Thank you TAR for putting all this stuff together! :)

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it this year. I know you mentioned in a thread a while back that you had a new business enterprise ready to start up. I assume that's the reason you won't be making it.

Will the action room still be there or will the TAR studio be the only action room?

Action room will be in the same place as last year with a couple more tables probably. Our room will be downstairs across from the Legends sports bar. That room has never been used at the Derby before. The main feature for us in the new room is we can lock it up and get some sleep when the action dies down in the morning and afternoon.

With only two tables we will be scheduling them as much as possible. If this year is like last year I suspect the bar table will go non stop.

The old action room will be like it always has been. Our room basically adds two more tables to the mix and doesnt take away anything.

Justin what you do is great for pool and greatly appreciated. Especially for the people like me who wont be able to be there. Im looking forward to seeing the action!

I have an idea, how about setting up a text or email announcement for matches. Since I'm sitting at work most of the day, I can't have azbilliards open or the stream on non-stop, but can fire it up at times to peek on things. Even at home, with several computers, the wife and kids get a bit antsy what with all the "feed me dinner dad" and "clean up your spilled beer" complaining. Limits my stream watching.

I'd be glad to have this a paid option if needed, set up a PPV account, for 5, 10 bucks, and then just send a mass txt or email msg to the people who sign up.

Looking forward to watching SVB in action there again, I know he supports your work.

Do you think you'll end up using the projector again this year and showing the matches on the wall of the stairway?
For sponsors of the free broadcast, are you doing commercial breaks (between racks and such) or ?

This sounds fantastic. Congratulations on a great idea.

Wishing you great success.

Don't worry about getting rest. You know when you finish with the studio's business you will be in the other action room NOT gettting rest.

Since we are directly across from the legends sports bar i would like to find a way to project the feed on the wall opposite the area in Legends where you can sit outside the restaraunt. That way people could sit and eat their dinner and watch the match going on inside the room.

Glad to hear TAR will be there and hope the new setup works out for you. Just make sure people save some of the action for the end of the week.
