Synathesia is the ability to see sounds as colors or shapes.
This condition is usually regarded as a gift rather than a handicap.
People that saw numbers as colors were actually employed as code breakers.

Players for a long time have had a mild form of synathesia.
My first car was an Olds Starfire convertible.I liked explaining that the
colors were 7-ball maroon and that creamy beige of a cue-ball kept in the dark.

Sooo....I've always known that 'purple' equals '4-ball'.

Then along came TV balls...!!!!
The 4-ball is gay.

And the 7-ball...
..is the puke-brown of an ill fitting suit worn by a 'burro-crat' from a 1950's
communist dictatorship.

Sorry, I'm critical when it comes to spelling, "synesthesia".

Synesthesia comes in many different types and can link virtually any of the senses. The example you gave of the code breakers is called color-grapheme synesthesia. As an example, some can see sound, feel taste, etc.

I ate sugar cubes in the '60s that did the same thing.

lol nice.

One more thing, the example of the car color reminding you of the ball color and thus the ball number as well does not qualify as a form of synesthesia. In a synesthete an elicited phantom sensation is invariably paired with a discrete stimulus. The example provided is just memory recall through visual and semantic networks.

And yes I know the first post was mostly a joke, I'm just really bored.

Cheers

I can feel taste, like when I went to that weird country where
skunk ass was a delicacy.
My stomach felt funny after that.
Or when you eat Mexican, it makes your ass hurt for a day.

I actually meant to use the alternate spelling I prefer....

This was programmed in me at a young age. I had colored magnets of the alphabet and the numbers as a young child and to this day associate those letters and numbers with the color of the magnets. If I'm trying to think of an person's name and I see the color red I know their name starts with an A, J, S, or W -or the number 4 of course. They were all red magnets.
Reminds me of my favorite TV quote from Li'l Bush.
"Sometimes it takes courage to stab your brain with a seven."
