Came in the mail today...ordered back in January when I stopped by the shop in Denver NC and met Trevor and his guys. I designed this to be a bit of a throw-back cue, inspired by an old Joss I admired (the one "Julian" shoots with in the Color of Money). Built to my specs:
-60 inches, split between butt and shaft.
-Ivory Horseshoe inlays (why don't you see more horseshoes on cues, anyway? It's an obvious symbol for good luck...you would think you'd see it used more often).
-Ivory ferrules with pads and Triangle medium tips.
-Long pro taper (over 12 inches), shafts are 12.8 mm.
-Overall weight is 20 oz.
-5/16 x 14 piloted SS.
-All white is Juma, except the ferrrules and horseshoes.
-White ringtail lizard wrap.
-Rings at all points with SS, Juma and abalone (I had asked for MOP, but the abalone works better with the points).
-4 half spliced ebony points, with Black, Dark Blue, Light Blue and Natural veneers. Points are dead even and the veneers are water tight.
-Ebony butt sleeve...has lots of nice grain, photos don't pick it up.
As soon as I pulled it out of the packing, to quote Chistopher Walken, "Wow. Wowee Wow Wow." This thing shoots LIGHTS OUT! I was worried having read other accounts of people not liking the action on these cues, but mine hits them perfect. I took it out for 3 hours tonight and ran a 3 pack with each shaft right off. Then I switched to 8 ball and ran several racks, too (that's been a while getting that kind of rhythm back). It spins the cue ball at about twice the rate my Schon does, so I was over-running my two rail leaves a little bit...but I was making shots like the cue ball had eyes all evening. Very low deflection for stock shafts. Running the ball up the long rail was the easiest it's been in years.
The hit is medium stiff, with a nice harmonic "plunk". I wasn't drawing the cue ball as well as my Schon, but i think that's more to do with the extra two inches and me adjusting my stroke a little. It's great not to have to grab the but cap with my stroke hand! The balance is perfect (for me) a little forward.
Trevor and his guys hit this one out of the park. I'm so glad I went with them. No one is making cues this nice for the money they charge (and it only took 4 months to finish). These guys aren't just "getting better and better", they're already there! I have officially retired my "trusty rusty" Schon........
