Can you try to help the viewers enjoy the world tournament in person?

Last time I went as a spectator (in 2007) at New Brunswick in the hotel, I needed binoculars to watch the table action.

Maybe a guy with a microphone streaming commentary via internet or local wireless feed for spectators to quietly know what is happening at which table.

The World event is great because I got to see a lot of players, but it is tough to watch in person.

I have seen some small area but elevated platforms that can be installed in rooms to give people a better view of the room, that'd be great for a commentary or several commentators.

That is why I was not a repeat customer, the viewing was difficult. The event a breakers was better because I was there in the action, sure it might have heated up the players but i went each day.

I guess with 2 months to go, and not playing at all due to injuries I better get healed up and get my ass in gear to win my way in !!!!

I am psyched !

I will be running the qualifier in Tempe (Phoenix), Arizona. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me. I'll be posting a thread soon.

Thanks,

Thank you for making it happen Ray

Why not Dallas (or Frisco) Texas?

I mean the Ultimate 10 Ball Championships was just held here in Frisco and it was one of best tournaments I've ever been to. There may not be tons of Straight Pool players in Dallas, but surely it's an ideal location for surrounding cities?

The locations for the qualifiers are not picked by Dragon Promotions. Normally a pool room (owner/mgr) or someone who works in conjunction with a pool room (such as myself) contacts Dragon Promotions about hosting a qualifier... and it takes off from there.

So if you would like to see a qualifier in your area (probably too late for this year), then a pool room owner/mgr, or even perhaps yourself, could contact Dragon Promotions about hosting a qualifier in your area.

Pretty sure this is how most of them are scheduled... but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

FYI...

Thanks BigCat, I wasn't sure how these things are arranged.

Yes, The Dallas area would be a great location for a 14.1 qualifier. I bet a ton of good players would show for it. Just in the Dallas area alone, we have great 14.1 players Like: Bob Vanover, Paul Guernsey, Bob Mapes and a ton of other players that can hold their own. Maybe, even Dick Lane would come out of retirement for a tournament like that.
Yes, the Ultimate 10 Ball Championship was a great tournament here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. I can see it coming back year after year, why not a 14.1 tour.
Next year would be a dream come true, if one was held here. You never know.

Mike, with the way you've been playing, you oughta give it a shot.

I would love to see Dick Lane shooting again. He is a gentleman, and this is a gentleman's game.

Hey, why not invite him to Grosso's Pool Room to practice? We can alternate weeks. I'm happy to come watch and capture the games for Vimeo.

How about a round robin spread over a couple months? You, Dick, myself and a few others...make a grid and every week play a match. Tally up at the end. This way everyone plays everyone and there's less luck involved (not that luck is much of a factor in Straight Pool). :)

Mike:

Isn't Dick Lane occupied at the moment -- still contemplating his next shot in the 2000 US Open 14.1 Championship?

:p

Sean...... LOL, that is so funny but True. You are so right. I can tell you a few stories.
He is a 100% gentlemen and a super great player. I have racked for him many, many times.

Thanks Winston. Yes, I would love to give the tournament a shot. Right now, I am saving money to go to NY at the end of August to compete in the (World Police & Fire Games) being held in NYC at "East-Side Billiards". There is going to be a 8-ball, 9-ball and 14.1 tournament held over a week's time. Players are coming from all over the World. I do believe that Stefano Pelinga will be competing also. I hope to make the USA proud.
Maybe, next year I will be able to play in a qualifier. Plus, I want to give Vegas a try (8-ball) for the Nationals in May. I have never gone.

Don: I will look for Dick's phone #. It would be great to have him come over.
Maybe, I can talk him into it. Anyways, I do believe that by next year, our games should be at a higher level. Tempe, AZ is not out of the question from Big D.

Good luck, Mike. You'll do us proud. I met and got a picture with Stefano (which I've since lost) at Valley Forge in 2008. In fact, RonF took it. That picture prompted me to lose 50lbs by that summer. And if memory serves me correctly, Stefano's day job in Italy is also a policeman. At least we don't have to worry about sausage chiming in about that! :p

Mike:

I know Eastside Billiards -- Lisa and I went to one of Tony R.'s charity events there back in February of last year:

(Funny, the website is still advertising that event. :scratchhead: )

If you're planning to be there for the World Police & Fire Games event, it sounds like an AZB 14.1 "Meetup" might be in order! (I'd certainly make it a point to go!)

Yeah, you got to just contact Charlie Williams to set up a qualifier in your area. Tom Karabotsos did the first two or three qualifiers in Chicago. Then his room closed and the next year we had nothing and I think maybe Arizona got in that year. I was sending Charlie emails and pestering him at Derby and at first he said Chicago would not support a qualifier. I told him we would and we could and we are on our third straight qualifier out of Red Shoes.

Basically, you need to guaranty about $1300 to get them going.

World Games

You bet I will be there. I have been waiting for a long time for the Games to come to the US. They are played every two years in different Countries. There is over 60 different sports. Here the web site: http://2011wpfg.org/
Yes, bring Lisa and she can keep my Lisa company. I have no intentions of getting beat, so I know that i will be there for many hours every day.
