insidepoolmag videos on youtube are not free

Pool! Pool! Pool!
So lately some of the insidepoolmag videos on youtube, especially the full match videos from recent tournaments aren't free. They are up for renting at 99 cents for 24 hours. What does everyone feel about this? Is it going to be good or bad or neutral for the sport?

I am fine with it. We buy songs and apps for 99cts so renting hours of pool video for a buck shouldn't be a problem.

$1

A dollar won't kill me for crying out loud! Why would it be bad for the sport? Should everything be free?

I think it's reasonable. If I buy a DVD for $15+and don't like it I'm stuck with it. If I don't like one of these I'm only out 99c. If it's good I'll watch it several times. But I think there should be a DVD option, too.

I also would like 3 days to watch it so I'm not committed to watching it immediately.

It's a terrible idea so long as people in Canada are restricted. I'd pay, but apparently I'm not allowed

Yeah. I won't be watching any of them because they use Google Checkout only. For some reason Google has closed my Google checkout account even though I haven't used it ever. I jumped through the hoops they asked me to for reinstatement and have gotten absolutely ZERO response and no way to talk to someone about it. So Google Checkout means John Barton won't be buying any of the feeds.

I honestly don't get why these companies don't freaking figure it out and make it stupidly easy to buy stuff on the net.

well its not at all a bad idea... if insidepoolmag can cover big tournaments and invest some money into broadcasting and streaming, which i think they have started doing recently in collaboration with youtube... it'd b awesome. For us living in united states and other developed countries is fine, but what about lesser countries, where making these videos paid could hamper the popularity of the big players and the sport... Also from the perspective of school and college kids who wanna follow the sport seriously, this could probably not work out...

i'd guess making the live streams paid, e.g. like what TAR does.. and later making those streams free would be a better idea.. but then again i'm not too bright when it comes to economics and business, so i thought i'd see what everyone's opinion is.

Neutral. I doubt it will have any affect on how many new players enter the game or how often existing players will go to the pool hall and spend money on table time, beer, or cues & cases. I also don't see how it will have any affect on the current state of the professional game.

Would I ever purchase one? Perhaps. If I heard about a particularly good match that was available for a buck, why not? But to watch a "What's in the case" segment, probably no.
