SBE 2012 moved

Thanks for the info, sounds like a good move. It doesnt look like the is a hotel attached though?

I certainly understand the need to move and I also understand that Mr. Hopkins wants to keep it in that area as it is close to where he lives.

The problem here is that the vendors need a hotel attached while a lot of the fans & players prefer to have a room in walking distance to relax in-between matches. This new location will not be popular with very many people. Simply put, multi-day events need attached hotels.

Moving to Baltimore would keep the expo in the region and their expo center has hotels attached. Another bonus for Baltimore is that the airport is closer and getting a ride to the expo would probably be cheaper. There are plenty of shopping & dining places that are within walking distance that a rental car would not be needed.

great recommend hotel to stay at is allready booked....

I 2nd that! Move it to Baltimore.:D

I dont know if its been posted here yet

All the hotel rooms on site pretty much filled up way ahead of time at the Valley Forge place. Unless you were a vendor, you had a slim chance of getting a room on site there, and the parking and all that walking was difficult for an old gray mare like me. :o

We plan on going to the SBE. It's a hop, skip, and a jump from where we live, and I must say that we thoroughly enjoy all the festivities, but especially the Action Table. Keith's been hitting balls recently, so hopefully by March, he'll be comfy. :D

One year, en route to the SBE, we were putzing along up I-95. I'm usually a slow driver, which annoys some people, but I always try to follow the speed limit. As we got closer to Valley Forge, it seemed like an abundance of cars were passing me and honking their horns. Keith got annoyed and said, "Can't you go any faster? Everybody is now honking their horns because you're driving like a turtle. Sheesh!"

Suddenly, one of the cars driving by rolled down their windows and gave us a high-five kind of sign and cheered. I soon realized it was my license plates that said "Rack 'em" which was being noticed by the attendees, as they were en route to the SBE, too. It was amazing how many cars on the road were all going to the SBE like us!

I remember another thread where someone suggested looking into Atlantic City, as they are hurting for tourist dollars.

Will the new location close down and kick everyone out at 6AM? Are there any 24/7 diners nearby?

I'm not so sure it is. Lack of on-site hotel accommodations is going to make the convention a bit more of a hassle to get to and from. And when the casino is up and running, I think a lot of action guys will stray over that way.

Oh, you are so right. I had not thought of the casino attraction being distraction from the event. I hope this doesn't happen.

I'm very disappointed in the move. The new place is in the middle of nowhere and from the aerial view in google maps looks like a converted warehouse. The thing that really made SBE work for me was the attached hotel. The lack of an attached hotel makes the event only worth one day of my time and I seriously doubt I will drive the 6 hours to attend it now.
Too bad, it was a great thing while it lasted. I'll have to get on the phone and cancel my Radisson reservations. Even if I wind up going no sense paying 150 a night for that place now. If I'm going to be driving anyway, drive an extra 5 or 10 minutes and save some money.

TWICE as much space??? No fricking stairs??? Sounds good to me. Maybe thye'll have more chairs for people to sit on aswell

More chairs (preferably comfortable chairs) is a must if he expects old dudes like me (and we're a large part of the crowd) to keep coming.

Me and a friend of mine were thinking about selling those portable chairs at the SBE in 2012. You know bring a truck full of these portable fold up chairs for about $35 a pop. We could of made a fortune!!!!

<...as Sean tries his best to put on his "rough around the edges" persona...>

Most folks that make the trek to Valley Forge with the intention of staying the entire duration, do so on Wednesday. This is especially the case with folks playing in events that are required to be at the Wednesday night players' meetings, vendors who've yet to set up their booth, etc.

With that in mind, and with the fact that most of the "popular" radio stations enroute to Valley Forge are known to participate in that Opie and Anthony W.O.W. event, are you sure the hootin' and hollerin' that you were getting from other cars passing you, weren't anticipating "something" that would happen with the first word in your license plate? :p

-Sean <-- rough edges probably as smooth as a mill file compared to others
