Tribute Cue ?

If a cue is a total copy of a living maker's cue and was not commissioned or had no permission from the maker, is that tribute cue or a knock-off ?

I caught my little girl the other day using some of her Crayola washable markers on a few of my house cues. Her by doing that...would that be a tribute cue or a knock-off of a living Floridian cuemaker?

I will take Cue Design Theft for $500...

Knock-Off

<~~~~~~not a cuemaker, but I know a few ;)

Definitely knock-off.

The word "type", "tribute", are found in so many listing in the wanted for sale section of AZB, I oftern wonder if any living Cuemaker is doing any designs tht is really "NEW" or just elements of previous designs! JMHO

Are you asking or giving opinion ?

I would say tribute, but I think if someone has a bias opinion on the maker or the guy selling the tribute cue it automatically becomes a knock-off,not because it is but because of everything else but the cue!I think if someone may not like where the tribute cue is being made is another reason for the knock-off nonsense.I think if a cuemaker is confident in his or her product it won't matter who tributes there work.If you could get your dream cue at half the cost and plays great what would you do?Personally if I have the money I'll buy the Mona-Lisa if not I'll go with a tribute copy.If I can't afford Pizza-Hut I'll buy Dellisio, either way people will go with what they can afford

Depends.. are we using "copy" in the definitive meaning of the word, or a broader more ambiguous meaning? :p

I thought it was a blatant copy, and don't really see why anyone would do it. But of course I"m just a customer.

The cue I saw, a Sly, was shown with the pictures of the Scruggs it was a copy of by Sly. His cue isn't finished, but from his own words he is intending to copy it exactly.

Edit...

just re-read the thread, and evidently he is changing it up a bit, so I retract my blatant copy remark.

thank you sir i don't need to copy another makers cue....

I know you don't need to. For the record I like your cues, especially when you do your own designs. From all accounts your cues play well. The link to the scruggs cue made me think you were doing a out and out copy.

Gee, up until now, I had big plans to start knocking off Wally World cues.
I hope you guys don't get mad on me. Maybe the Waltons will sue me.
