What Is 'The Ghost'?

What is "the ghost" as in "I can beat the ghost"? Not the ghost ball - I know what that is.

I've looked around some and not really found an answer. Just people saying they can (or cannot) beat it (the ghost).

I'm sure it's a simple answer, so my apologies in advance for not being able to find the answer myself.

Rack up nine ball, take ball in hand after the break, if you run the rest out that means you beat "The Ghost"

Some people don't take ball in hand after the break.

Basically, it's playing without an opponent. You have to basically play a perfect game (i.e. run out).

Easy enough then, thanks. I guess it's just a different way of saying "I can run out a 9-ball rack." OK.

If I make something on the snap, I play it where it lies, if not I wil take ball in hand against the ghost and try to run out on him...

I take ball in hand if I don't have shot after a break. I also practice ghost without breaking, having to pocket all 9 or 10 balls.

If you break the 9 ball in when playing the ghost, do you count that as a win, or spot it and give yourself ball in hand?

I count that as a win, as it would be against anyone else.

Erik,,,,,,,,,,try playing the ghoast a race to nine and see how you do,,,,,,,,,its not simple
We should make this an AZ 9 Ball Challenge and have people post there results.

i think most people spot the 9 if they make it on the break. The last time i played the ghost i won 6 out of 10. Seems like i read somewhere pro level you should be able to beat the ghost almost all the time. Ive seen local shortstops play the ghost sets for $100 and win, so i guess thats right.

Another interesting challenge is that test alan hopkins ( i think) came up with. where you get so many points for everything (making balls, how many balls you run in which inning, etc) seems like a perfect game was like 20. And you do this for like 100 games, and 1800 to 2000 pts was pro level according to him.

There are all kinds of different rules and ghost games out. Ive heard basically every ball ghost game possible lol. From the 3 ball to the 15 ball. One pocket ghost and inline 6 ball ghost are other types of ghost games. The rule of it all is you cant miss though. Well unless you're getting 2 ball in hands lol. Its just complicated because there are so many games.
