Warped Southwest- worth less, or worthless?

I have an opportunity to purchase two Franklin era Southwest cues. Alas, they are both warped (the butts). Are these cues worthless, or is there some market for them? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'll give you you $200 a piece for them.:p

I have heard that some of the Southwest butts have a little roll to them. How do they roll with the shafts? A friend had a Southwest with a little roll in the forearm, but rolled straight when together....go figure.

You quick one Rossaroni...I just sent him a message.

And honestly it depends on the degree of warp. The more its warped, the less it is worth.

That being said. I just sold a couple of guitars, and I would be willing to buy one of them!

In my unprofessional opinion they are worthless, but being a nice guy I will give you fifty for them.:D

They are worth LESS than if they were straight. However if they are playable then they have value. A cue does not have to be straight to be a good playing cue.

sorta depends on where the warp is...if the A joint/ handle has moved there's guys that can fix it and prolly fix it better than SW. If it's in the nose, worth way less and problematic..good luck

Ditto to what he said. If the forearm is warped its kindling. If the warp is in the joint, butt or handle, then you can get it fixed. I've seen a Gina get fixed that had a warp in the handle and it came out as good as new with a new handle.

How do they hit?. If its in the butt, think of it as part of its character of the cue

When the cuemaker fixes it, he cuts the seam between the handle and forearm or between the butt and handle and simply makes a new handle and puts it back together. Good as new. The forearm would be different because the inlays are there. You would have to replace the forearm if its warped and that essentially entails making a new cue.

The second one I had showed a very slight wobble near the nose. It was just barely noticeable. I've since heard that there were more like that. Had no effect when I sold mine, however.

There have been a lot of threads about the Southwest warp that is mainly due to the compound taper. The best thing to do is have a cue repair person check it out.

Does the pin wobble when you roll just the butt on the top rail of a pool table ?

About 5 years ago I had a Fanklin era SW. It was a plain Jane , no points. It had a bad warp in the butt. I listed and sold it on EBAY for $1400. I DISCLOSED THE WARP AND POSTED PICS OF THE WARP. A collector from oversees just had to have it.

You never know....
