Question for Meucci 'experts'

Hello everyone,

I told a friend I would try to sell his Meucci cue for him. It has one shaft and I actually have a shaft that matches it that I was going to try to sell along with it. So, I get the cue from him Wednesday night and go to take pictures, etc... of it last night and notice right off the bat that ferrule of his cue is not a standard Meucci ferrule. It's shorter and of a different material.

My first thought was that the old ferrule had been replaced, but the shaft is the correct length and does not appear to have been cut. The ring-work looks correct, so I'm stumped as to what to think about this.

Here are some pics:

The top shaft is the shaft that comes with the cue. The bottom shaft is the one I own.

Anyone care to offer some insight as to why there is a difference? Seems I read once that Meucci has used the same ferrule since the 80's. My friend did not buy this cue new, but thinks it is a 95-11 and not a HOF-1.

Thanks in advance for any input-

J.

We've sold a lot of Meucci cues over the years and I've never seen a Meucci shaft come with a ferrule that short. I'd hardly call myself an expert on Meucci cues though.

looks like the more used shaft, i would say the ferrul was cut down over time with being faced on every tip change, or cut because of a hair crack at the end....Meucci are known for cracked ferruls around here..........OTB

I'm not a meucci expert by any means but could it be that his shaft was a custom length shaft that got a ferrule replacement at some point?

Well, I didn't think about the shaft having possibly been a custom (longer) length at some point. I guess that could be.

@OTB: My first thought was that the ferrule had cracked and been replaced, but the length of the shaft seems to be spot on compared to my other Meucci shafts.

I guess I just need to figure out a fair description for the for sale section. I think I will link this thread to the for sale thread so folks and have a clear idea of whats going on.

Thanks for all the input so far everyone!
