Interview with Al and Ann Stohlman

The Stohlmans

Saw this posted on Facebook. Very very cool.
I know at the Tandy Leather Factory workshops all the instructors use his designs to teach tooling. From basic to ultra advanced Al was a a master.
His work is so prolific, I would say pretty much every leather carver today is a student of his really.

I'm actually planning a trip next year to Sheridan Wyoming to check out the Stohlman Museum and the other Sheridan leather museums as well.
(Leather geeky, I know. But I can't wait!)

John,

I thoroughly enjoyed this video.....watched every second a couple of times.

What a great person, and I particularly liked his tools!

Will, I could totally picture you wearing that leather jacket while riding off into the sunset on a custom Harley.

Al was so great, my puny words cannot do him justice...I kneel in reverence to his cosmic abilities and style.

Bringing this thread back because I just happened on this video from 1955.

Look at the time lapse fade in on the steps to create the piece.

For everyone else, leather work has progressed A LOT since 1955 but the steps remain the same. Lots of meticulous hand work to bring a design to life on leather.
