2.The size of the pockets in millimetrs
3.The balls

All answers will be forwarded to my wellknown brother - Evgeny Stalev.

WELCOME to the forum, Max! :)

I have not learned yet what the "official" IPT cloth will be. The size of the pockets -- I think -- are 4-1/2 inches. If I am wrong, I hope somebody on this forum will correct me. The balls are Centennial, and the "official" IPT table will be a Diamond.

BTW, since you will be speaking with him, ask him what kind of stick he shoots with. He told me at the U.S. Open last year when I snapped this picture, and I forgot.

Please send my BEST regards to your brother. He is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE players in the world. He knows me as "Jennie." Tell him that Keith McCready and I both missed him at the King of the Hill Shootout in Orlando, Florida, this past December, and we look forward to seeing him very soon on the IPT tournament trail! :)

They used green mali cloths for the first tournament, 4 1/2 inches is 114.3 mm and indeed the centennial balls made by brunswick, but as mentioned I don't think this is "official" yet so it might change.

According to Mike Sigel the IPT will be manufacturing their own cloth in the future. But I think you are right in that they used Mali in Orlando. I would suspect that Mali might make the cloth, with a slight variation, and call it IPT.

A lot of stuff is made that way. All identical until it gets to the end of the assembly line and a different name is put on it.

Tour a Jays potato chip factory and see how many different names are on the bags they fill.

We just talked to Deno and a special IPT blend has been manufactured and will be used at the next qualifier in GA next weekend. If they like it, then they will proceed and make it available either through the IPT or the manufacturer.

Hey Linda,
Why is this info not shown on the IPT website.
According to what I see on the IPT site, Under "Official Equipment", all items listed were followed with, "comming soon".
That means to me they have no "Official Equip." Therefore how can the IPT require the GA event to recover tables that have just been recovered???? If this was agreed upon from the start, I will back off.

Not sure, Lamar. They may have an agreement up front to host IPT qualifying tournaments for the next few years. I think the Mali 820 cloth was going to be the official cloth, but it takes a few weeks for it to slow down and they don't want to wait that long, so I am sure the new cloth will be nappier and slower right away. It's a work in progress. The only reason we know is because we called Deno to know what cloth to put on our table. I am sure they will make it public just as soon as they know if it passes their criteria during the qualifiers. The IPT may have also offered to cover them free just to do the trial run; I can't say for sure.

I measured the pockets on the practice table and yes it was 4.5 inches. I took this picture at the time for forum members so they could see it was exactly 2 ball widths wide at the tips.

That's the difference I believe between IPT and most other tables.Normally the two balls fit side by side at back of the cut not the lip of the cushion. So if you actually compared WPA and IPT tables the IPT are probably around 4 1/4" by WPA measurement.(WPA- two balls should be able to "DROP")
Colin your pics imply you're a big guy ....me too, could you tell me do you have much trouble getting your hand into the pocket to recover balls on the IPT tables?

Hi Terry,
I'm reasonable size at 6' and 210+ lbs, but I have relatively small feet and hands. The pockets did seem accessible to me, and I suspect it shouldn't be a big problem unless you have very big hands.

I believe the Diamonds are not drop pockets but return pockets.

Hey Linda,
Was at "The Pool Room", in Marietta, GA today.
Three tables had been recovered with the new cloth after I left there about 10:00 PM Sat. As I understand there will be a total of 14 tables that will be recovered by Friday.
These tables were just recently recovered. How is that for an effort from "The Pool Room".

That is cool! I would love to go by and see those while I am in town, and still may Saturday night, but Saturday/Sunday, they are having a women's tournament that I am going to try and play in.

What was the cloth like? Did you play on it? Was it considerably slower? Thanks for the firsthand knowledge.

Hey Linda,
The womens event your refering to is the "Womens Amateur 9-Ball Classic", 01/28-29/06, it is an In-House Tour Format. That is held at Mr Cues II. Re: www.mrcuesiiatlanta.com
Click on "Tournaments".

As for the "IPT" Qualifier #2 (B), this will be first IPT qualifer to use the new IPT cloth. This event will be held at The Pool Room I in Marietta, Ga. 01/27-29/06. Re: www.thebestpoolroom.com & www.internationalpooltour.com

To me the IPT cloth did not appear to be that much slower as everyone is saying it would be. It was less than 24 hrs old.

Now for my last statement re: cloth & table speed:"The great pool players", will adjust to the table make & cloth brand. If not, they will fall!

Hey Linda,
I just returned from last nights IPT pre-qualifer events at The Pool Room in Marietta.
Local players in these events advised me the cloth was much slower than the normal at this room.

I was also advised, the cloth being used is on a trial bases with IPT. (info from a good source)

From my observation, I was seeing lint build up. Saw several players picking lint from the tables and tossing it away.
Lint can stop and/or change the path of a slow rolling ball.

"Have a nice day",
Lamar
