It Doesn't Matter??????

So I'm standing there by the table with my partner Efren Reyes, and just to be polite (so he doesn't feel excluded from the important decision making in our alternate shot 8-ball match), I ask him where he wants the cueball after I make my shot (for his upcoming shot). He replies, "it doesn't matter" (and the crowd erupts in laughter).

Thinking he must not have understood me (or was maybe just playing to the crowd), I clarify, "do you want me to leave it straight in, to the left, or to the right of this next ball?". His answer again was, "it doesn't matter" (more laughter).

I think I'll go practice until the cue ball position "doesn't matter."

hi,
One time when Grady told BuddyHall that he has to make moves ( in one pocket).Buddy said he did not have to make moves when he could make a ball and run out.( this is from Buddy Hall`s book).

Reminds me of when I asked the same question of my scotch doubles partner, who on a particular occasion was George "Ginky" San Souci. He just said "leave it anywhere." After I shot, his rather remarkable comment, upon viewing the leave, was "except there." I think he'd have asked me not to leave whitey frozen to the rail if he had it to do over again!

We amateurs really do need instructions from our professional partners.

The book The Inner Game of Tennis talks a little about this. I know that Efren was just saying that because he's Efren and can make a ball 32 rails from the parking lot, but the book pretty much says to get yourself into the "zone" you just have to play and not try so hard.

Or follow Chevy Chases advice in Caddyshack and "just be the ball".:D :p

Terry< I don't care about position either.....just for a different reason.:D

I do, but I have a bad back these days

Willie, that's hillarious. Thx for the anecdote.

WBM,

I've said that to weaker doubles partners, but unlike Efren, I didn't really mean it.:D

Great story!!

I've played a lot of scotch doubles and I always give my partners the same simple rule: "Don't leave me frozen to a rail unless necessary and don't leave me dead straight in unless necessary". Simple enough.;)

Thats hilarious, wish I could make balls from anywhere like Efren...

*not being a smartass, I really wish I could make balls from anywhere like Efren*

I have a friend who makes that sound (that Chevy Chase makes) when he is shooting a shot and he realizes that it is going to turn out the way that he was hoping. Kind of a "nununununununu":)

Speaking of SNL and the Movies- How about Bill Murray in Meatballs-The theme?

"It just doesn't matter"

It really "doesn't matter" for Efren, if he can see it he will make it, it's that simple. Oh and if he can't see it, there's still a good chance he's gonna make it, wished I was that good:)

Does

Efren jump balls. I know with his kicking
ability, it may not be necessary, just that
I have never seen him shoot a jump shot.

(In my best whining mocking tone.)

My partner Efren

...on the TV table …the crowd erupts …Efren this …Efren that

Blah Blah Blah

:)

When I read that I think I got a little different meaning out of Efren's remark, "I doesn't matter". I thought he was saying it didn't matter that much if he lost that game cause he had a built-in excuse. He was playing with Willie.

PS - Sorry Willie, Just couldn't help myself.

I've seen it only once, and he nailed it perfectly.

If I remember correctly it was against Corey Deuel in the 2004 US Open (I could be wrong). He was snookered behind a ball, and the next ball was sitting in the side pocket. He pulls out his jump cue to the surprise of many, and nails it perfect, and stops the cue with position on the next ball.

Yep he does and he jumps good. I can't remember where I saw him do it, I think it was in the world championships last year. He jumped and made a ball.
Speaking of players you might not know jumped I saw Tony Drago attempt it once too.
