hey folks, this is my first post. I wanted to thank all of you for the valuable info in these threads.

I have a Schon STL 15, Its a great cue, but I guess my 'taste' in cues has changed. I want a wrapless cue, but i dont want to stop using my schon. My local cue maker who is very good at building and modifying cues told me he can make my Schon into wrapless cue using curly maple.

I wanted to know if any of you out there have done this, any ideas, warnings.....thanks

If the cue maker is pretty good, it will probably come out fine.

Another alternative that I am very pleased with is a stack leather wrap by Tiger products. It's smooth and slick like wrapless but not glassy to the touch. I had it done to my JW cue and I wouldn't play any other way now. Tiger can make it perfectly level with the forearm and butt surfaces of your cue - plus it looks great. I had mine done in solid black.

a cue is built in three parts....the nose, the grip, and the butt.

so yes,,,a competent cuebuilder should be able to replace the original grip with your maple grip.

Why don't you do what Jason Miller did. Have your cue man fit a Dufferin butt to your Schon shaft with the wrap you want. That is what Jason Miller did and it seemed to work pretty well for him. And you will keep your Schon original. I did that with a Preditor shaft. And if you like the wrap you can always change it on your Schon later.
