has earl ever had the hell beat out of him?

no bashing please. please! with all this earl stuff going on, got me to thinking,(with all the shit he pulls) has earl ever had his ass beat while in a pool room?

Probably yes end/thread. Not sure what you want to accomplish on hearing details or whatever...there are enough threads on here about Earl don't you think? Usually people that get that intense in any sport get into it at one point or another.

I know that one year at the U.S. Open sometime back, 2 guys just about drug him out a side door with that on their mind. But, someone came to the rescue.
The thing is, Earl attracts more spectators than anyone at any tournament he is playing in.
Now, we know the reason for the attraction, but, does the end justify the means ?
That is a matter of personal opinion. I'm sure that tournament promoters have theirs.
With a good ref. to keep him sorta on a leash, I don't really have too much of a problem with him. JMHO.

I've heard (from more than one source) that Earl is sick and he doesn't take his meds. When he is on his meds he can be a pleasant guy, but off the meds he is unpredictable. Why he decided to stop taking them is his own choice, who knows why.

As for the game, I think Earl does for pool what Hellmuth does for poker. They are both great players, completely full of themselves, and train wrecks... you just can't look away.

I saw him come close once. He had lost a match and a short time later was sitting in the bar by himself in a booth drinking. A lady walked over and asked him for his autograph. He almost never even looked up at her and said, "Why don't you ask (name) for his, he won the match". She walked away and went over to her boyfriend of husband I don't know which he was.

After a few seconds this guy goes over to Earl's booth and with one hand on the back of the booth and the other on the table trapping earl in the booth leans in to like 6 inches of Earl's face and says something. I don't know what this guy said but Earl looked scared to death. The guy stood there for a few seconds, I guess seeing if Earl would be stupid enough to stand up and defend himself, then walked away. Earl left in like 2 minutes and didn't come back.

Earl has been around pool rooms and bars enough to know what can happen. I have seen people beaten, knifed and even shot over nothing in those places. I think Earls drinking interfered with his better judgment with the girl but the boyfriend/husband sobered him up real quick. This was in the south by the way in a place with rebel flags and pick up trucks. Not a place picking a fight would be a good idea I don't think.

Earl can't go out in a real world situation and act like he does in tournament atmospheres. He's in a safe cushy atmosphere with lots of spectators..
its a waste of time to beat earl up.he would just {female dog} you were not doing it right.

i would rather see efren and shane play than see earl play anyone....it is what it is....he acts the way he acts because it doesnt matter how he acts...take him for what he is one of the greatest players who is like a big firecracker....sit back and what him go BOOM.....all i can say is it is a great thing that he is allways playing pros..so they can act profesional...because if he acted like that in the REAL back door pool world it would not end as nice...but still no doubt that he is a great player

I agree with this synopsis. Earl's current storyline reads *A LOT* like the story of another incredibly-talented-but-troubled legend (and arguably the greatest bass guitarist that ever lived), Jaco Pastorius. If you read Jaco's short biography on that link (even the first paragraph will do), you'll see many similarities between him and Earl -- even though, yes, the difference is that Earl's a pool player and Jaco was a bass guitarist. Jaco was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and unfortunately met a tragic end in a Fort Lauderdale bar when he was literally beaten to death after an altercation.

Of course, one would NEVER wish such things to happen, especially to such unearthly talented people. But such over-the-top talent sometimes intrudes on other aspects of the brain, short-circuiting e.g. good decision-making skills.

Its not about that

I have had more than my share of opinions about Earl, some good, no ones more fun to watch, but most og my opinoins of him are bad...,

But if he is really on meds, I must eat my words and say that we should all take a set back and deal with Earl the person that needs help. People dont choose to stop taking meds, they tell themself, when they are on thier meds and thinking clearly, that everything is ok and that they are fine. They tell themself that they dont need the meds and that they have control now..., and then the trouble starts.

If he is really on meds, then he needs help and I hope he gets it, Good luck Earl.

If Earl is bipolar, and I would not be surprised if he is, not taking his meds is a symptom of the problem. I had a good friend who was bipolar until he died and if he didn't take his medication he became an entirely different person. Bipolars don't like the way the medication makes them feel, so I've been told, and they will stop taking it. It's not an easy problem to fix.

Yes he really is on meds but doesn't always take them. He does need help and understanding.

Push Out, you are 100% correct.
My wife is a Psych nurse. Its almost as if the cure becomes the problem.
Some of these meds can be real nasty. Sometimes combined meds can really screw a person up until they get them leveled out to manageable proportions.

Thats why many of the patients elect to go off their medication. They just want to feel normal again and not flying high for the rest of their lives. Normal plus being a little messed up is much better than a zombie like state.

Honestly, I don't even know if Earl does have a medical problem beyond being very hard and judgmental of himself.

So I asked my wife, if a person says, "I'm a lousy person and I deserve to be homeless", what does that say to you. She laughed at that one and said, "Hes fKed. Then she said, just kidding, maybe just a small personality disorder, no biggy. Lots of us have them.

See, we are all sitting here being arm chair Psychiatrists saying things like Bipolar and Sylopsis (Something like that, Jam said it)
and we don't even know. We are all screwed up to a certain point, right?

Pocket Point is more messed up than Earl is.

Like I said on another thread I don't know whats worse, the way Earl acts or the people that enjoy watching him suffer.

scsuxci, you got it right

I dont know why so many people have been down on Earl if they know he needs meds???? I have never heard of this until today and agian have to say that I now have a new prospective and wish him the best.

As (scsuxci) so correctly stated, its sad to see people use this as entertainment? And I think Justin should let this be known so that the broder public can understand that this is not an act, its a problem...,

I can always watch a guy who is struggling and trying to deal with it.

This might be a bad idea, but in an effort to help 'pool' and Earl himself, in future major tournaments put in a behavior clause. You'd get 1 warning for any one of a multiple of infractions at the table. The second..you're out of the tournament.

I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for several years, I lived with musician and Jaco's name came up several times when all the guitar buddies would be hanging out.

Weird, he died at a Wilton Manors club. That's where I lived. Little burb off of Oakland Park Blvd. I guess I got there 4 or 5 years after he died.

Weird how its such a big country, but yet you can find stuff that pinpoints you and a incident down within a mile a two.

He was killed at a place called "Midnights" an after hours club. They had tables there and there was some pool action by the way. Later it became the Corner Pocket Billiards that has I think since moved.

Off topic but....... Is Freddy's Anchor Inn still around Ft. Lauderdale? I think that was the name. Great pool spot but a little shady crowd.
