Joss Gambler I aquired. PICS

Finally got the pics out of my buddies camera. This is the Biagio By Joss cue I just aquired....

Per Joss this cue was NEVER offered like this one sits now. Very few had the Aces of Hearts and Diamonds with the MOP Diamonds. Also they only offered it in that model with 4 Ebony Points, no veneers.

This one has Plenty of Veneers and acording to Kerry@joss cue is a Custom built special order cue.

It will be going back to them to have a new butt cap installed, refinished and rewraped with a Black Irish linen wrap with Red speckles and an extra shaft to perfectly match this OE shaft I have for this one.

But and shaft and dead straight and roll perfect.....

It should be "For Sale"....

Which it is...

Just trying to figure a fair rate for it now "as is" before I send it back to Joss and have them Redo it to original....

Doubt your interested in it though.

I will post pictures and info of past sales on ebay this evening when I get home. I like this one that was on ebay before because it was a red-blk-red-blk in the points. They will be b/w pictures sorry, you really only want the info correct?

This does look like the ACE's cue that was made by JOSS. I have never seen one before with this joint "Biaggo" before? But maybe I have only ever seen the otherside with the JOSS logo.

I have a JOSS just like this with the same points (blk-purple-red-plain-black) and a plain ebony butt. Paid 355.00 for it about 3 years ago on ebay. Which I am guessing was about the list price back in 1989.

Maybe I can get mine upgrade to an ACE's cue also, by just getting it sent back? Bugs. :~)

I am not 100% sure here. But I am guessing that Joss made cues for Biaggio just like they did for Brunswick in the middle to late 80's. If I had a Biaggio, I would think any 5/16 14 Joss or aftermarket shaft would work okay, but never use a Schon shaft. The brass on the Schon is wider than the JOSS shaft.

I don't know if this is the same cue. It was billed as the same but the email address did not match. It said on the ebay listing: "Cue made by Joss for Earl Strickland with Bill Stroud Veneers and repetitions of an pair of Aces around the butt of this old joss cue." The dimonds aces are made of MOP which anyone know is Earl's nick name, -Earl the Pearl-. I have no idea if Bill would had done the points on this, with the cue to be made for Earl in the early to middle 80's? This is why I tracked the actions of this item.

Anyhow it started at $1.00 on April 29-04 and ended on May-09-04 for $415.00

Please note, I am not the seller or buyer. I just kept this because it was interesting item. Enjoy the pictures.

On another thread we had a discussion on Cues as a investment. I wonder how this item will fair now that -Earl the Pearl- is in the BHOF. Also if it is true that Bill Stroud has retired from making cue now and/or in the future and these are his point will change in value over time?

Bugs.

Man, your like a wealth of knowledge and history!

I won't let this one go for that little, especially with having 5 veneers on it. I think I will proceed with letting Joss refinish the cue back to original and toss it in one of my extra cases and hide it in a closet for a few years.

This is obviously a pretty rare cue and will do nothing but go up in value over the years....

I'll know more when I get an e-mail from Dan@joss later today.

Finally got a reply from Dan@Joss about this cue....

Gary,
The original cue like what you have was made as one of a line of cues for Earl Strickland BEFORE your cue was made. I made a line of cues for Earl (six models) that never got off the ground. Earl had a friend and backer at that time that passed away and the project had to be abandoned. Your cue was one of that line. The only difference was that they may have had points. Some were made with a pair of aces and some were a jack and an ace (black jack). The design was a look that I liked so when it didn't work for E.S. and I was asked to make a line of cues for Biaggio I used the same design for one of their cues.
How long ago was this? I cant remember that far back. How many were made? Maybe 20 to 30 total. There were a couple made with ivory for the card body. I think yours was / is maple. If I can come up with a year that it was made I'll let you know when I send it back to you.

Well, they only made 20 or 30 in my combination of cards and even
less with the Mother Of Pearl.

I'm thinking that's a pretty rare cue.

Now, what do I do with it?

Dan will refinish it with a brand new butt cap, wrap and clean shaft for under $200.00...........

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Joss Ace's vs Biaggio

We I am no expert on this.

If it was a "Joss Custom Ace's" have them redo it, it may help if keep its value for the future?

I don't know much about Biaggio and Joss's with CNC points and there value in the market place (gold letter that is)? Yours looks like it has the same CNC black, purple, red, natural, black points at mine. Although mine is a 89 J-24. Maybe it would be okay to have "proficient billiards" work on it? I value mine at list price. It is in no way mint condition, but nether am I.... LOL.

You can tell from the pictures, I posted of Phil's "Joss Custom" that sold on ebay in September with four shafts and case got $800.00. Note its a Joss Custom with sharp points!

I am having a hard time reading Danny's note here. But it sounds like had made very few of the JC-Ace's cues, but only 20 to 30 of the Biaggio's? I wonder, if that is total of the Ace line of each suit?

Maybe you can't go bad ether way? Have Joss work on it...... With such a low number and all.

Wow, I am so jealous, as Danny said it is "one cool design." It has a interesting and good story about it also....... I have always like the Ace's, as much as the 89 J-17. I wish someday in the future, I will have one of each.

I think you have a winner there in your hands. ;)
