Bummed-case stolen tonight

Is it like the motorcyclist saying about crashing a bike -not a matter of if, but when?

Do all pool players have some or all of their stuff stolen at some point?

This is my fault.

Played league tonight. Not enough room for all the cases and cues next to our table. I screwed together my playing cue and break cue, closed the case and set against the wall adjacent to another league table.

I played after league with a team member, but failed to retrieve my case and bring it to my table. Not the first time, probably the last time.

The good news-my cuemaker was not working today in this heat-so I didn't pick up my new shaft this afternoon. I still have my playing cue and break cue and a box of Majic chalk.

I no longer have my older 3 x 7 tooled Instroke Cowboy case, autographed by Efren Reyes. I'm trying to remember what was in the case-5 shafts/tip pick/just-a-bridge/aluminum telescoping bridge/Blue Diamond Chalk/Matching jump handle-blah blah blah.

F#CK. But my fault.

I hate thieves in general. I specifically hate thieves tonight.

Just to dot the i's-I will go back tomorrow to see if there are video tapes to look at-but I'm not holding my breath.

This was a bad case of stupid....mine.

Ironically-for the last month-I have been taking my playing cue outside with me on smoke break. Another player in the league had his expensive cues and case walk away about a month ago.

Duh.

Sorry about your loss man. I know it probably doesn't make any difference because thieves are just being opportunistic, but I leave my good stuff at home. When I go out to the bars I bring a no name 2x4 case I bought used with a mismatched shoulder strap and the plainest cue I own. I hope you find your stuff and the bastard who stole it. Good luck!

This is a good suggestion, but the problem is getting permission to view that video. You'll need to have the pool hall owner with you, to satisfy the surrounding business owners that yes, this is indeed a legit request and not e.g. someone trying to view the video to stalk someone else.

And even then, not all businesses will allow another business owner to view their surveillance video -- especially business owners that are at odds with the pool room owner (which some are -- many locales "don't like" pool halls in or near them).

But it's worth a shot anyway!

sorry to hear of your misfortune.

at least you have the cues but, yes, unfortunately, the case and accessories will have to be replaced.

it sure would be nice if the thief turns up on surveillance video.

Good luck in the search. I hate thieves. I've had plenty of tools walk off from the job.

That's a shame. A way to catch the thief would be to hide a tracking device in a case and leave it in a place where it is likely to be stolen.

Hope you get the stuff back.

When I'm playing my cue goes where ever I go, even if it is the bar cue I chose to play with. SORRY for your loss. I have a suggestion that might help NEXT TIME. Place the case under the table you're playing on in the middle long ways, but... you have to remember to take it with you when you change tables. After this I think you will remember. Again, sorry for your loss. Someone will probably beat the thief up & take the case from him. 'Bad' people generally hang w/ other 'bad' people.
 
3railkick...I'm sure you'll think of this, but don't forget to notify pawn shops around you of the theft...and keep your eye on craigslist locally. Sorry about you losing your stuff. Hope you get it back!

Sorry for your loss, it sucks in a huge way. It is a sad statement about our society at present that you can't go into a bar or pool hall with a nice case and cue without needing eyes in the back of your head to keep an eye on your possessions. I hope you are somehow fortunate to recover your stolen property.

Well, it actually kinda IS your fault...but it has happened to most of us at one time or another...you got off lucky, I lost a $1100 Joss I had for less than two months. It was my dream cue and I saved for 6 months to buy it...left it in the trunk of my car when I broke down one night and by the time I got back to the car after walking to a pay phone, it and my tires were gone. I would wake up in a cold sweat months later, dreaming about leaving that cue where it could be stolen. I still occasionally have dreams that make me check my case the next morning. We feel your pain, brother.

A little more info might help - and I agree - thieves need to lynched.

Not that this will help you (3railkick) but last year I went to petco and used their dog tag machine to carve a two sided chrome tag that hangs from the zipper on my case. Side one "If found please return for a reward." Side two "Garrett Williams 505.690.5182" now this wont help stop thieves but it makes sure no one mistakes their case for mine and it gives it a fighting chance to come home if I forget it somewhere. :)

That is like saying the hot woman in the mini skirt deserved to be raped because she dressed like that.

Society today isn't getting any better, a lot more people are getting poor than people getting rich. People need money to survive and any person will do whatever it takes to survive, so with the way the world is today theft and violence are going to get a lot worst and probably won't get better for a century or 2 or at least till we as a species wake up and discover that people were happier before money and greed.

I can answer this. It is a pretty nice pool hall in Orange County, Ca. If 3Rail wants to get more specific, I'll leave it to him. It is the kind of place where you don't FEEL like you have to have eyes in the back of your head at all times.

The league is an in-house league with anywhere from 60 to 80 players, most of them are league members for years. almost everyone knows almost everyone else. They do have cameras in the place that might be helpful.
